What does it mean to build across generations? What responsibilities do we have to one another? And, most importantly, who is caring for our children? Intergenerational community is essential to the continuity of Black life. At a time when so much is working against our ability to gather, remember, and care for one another, revisiting Voices of the Gods Film alongside our founder Sharayna Ashanti Christmas’s short film A Birth of Remembrance brings us back to a place of inquiry in the pursuit to persevere. In this gathering, we are reminded that ritual, devotion, and collective commitment are essential to building restorative communities. They are part of how we sustain relational ancestral knowledge and develop our own ways of caring for one another. But that work must include our children. We return to Toni Cade Bambara’s reminder that one way to make revolution irresistible is to be responsible to the children, maintaining a sense of continuity with the past. Her words ask us to consider what kind of future we are making possible if young people are not a part of your present. That responsibility is not abstract, it is what it is. Grateful to have shared this screening , conversation & fellowship with director Al Santana , photographer Marilyn Nance @marilyn.nance , and Baba John. Thank you to everyone who made this gathering possible. With appreciation to the co-presenters, Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (@CCCADI), our screening partner, SNF Parkway Theatre (@mdffparkway), and associate programmer Jenné Afiya Matthews (@left_thigh) for bringing this program together. Link in bio! We going 🆙 Saturday. So appreciative to be in community with mines. Big thanks to @muse.360 @raynqueen two door coupe (2024) my first ever short film, showcases a night in the life of a homeless teenager after school hours. I have many friends and family who are apart of the educational system, and they come in direct contact with children who have issues that go far beyond the classroom. I’d really love for these same educators to come and share their perspectives on how they’re assisting these children with navigating through such triviality, as well as interacting with all of the MAJOR activations @muse.360 will be having in the same day. Such as, From 10-11 AM — Analog Film Photography + Film Development with Chrys Davis @dolo_foto 11 AM-12 PM — Storyboarding + Digital Filmmaking/Photography with Sha-Shonna Rogers @sheeggo And again, two short film screenings by my sisters @sheeggo @tajeewaji Followed by an extensive talkback! Again, link in bio. I’ll see y’all there🌟 by @newgenerationscholars

“The stuff you love was shaped, if not designed, by us.” — Greg Tate From moments in front of Greg Tate Horus in Harlem by Brett Cook, along the park fencing of St. Nicholas Park, to the revisited movement of Glenn Ligon’s ME/WE: Give Us a Poem at the Studio Museum in Harlem, to experiencing Taj Posce’s solo exhibition Looking Up From Here at DIMIN NY. Our young people moving through the world not as spectators, not as subjects to be extracted from, but as inheritors, interpreters, witnesses, makers , carrying memory forward and making themselves at home inside the cultural continuum. Deep Dreaming 2026 by @naimastarr for Soulra on view @artspacenc | ALL AMERICAN: Contemporary Perspectives from HBCU Artists ‘Deep Dreaming’ by Naima Starr is a multimedia collage reverencing the creative inheritances of Black Women whose talents were constrained by patriarchy, racism, and labor. Dreaming up a world grounded in reflections of Alice Walker’s In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens, the work considers generations of Black Women who expressed creativity through quilting, sewing, writing, gardening, and other daily acts of creation. ‘Deep Dreaming’ serves as both memorial and offering, honoring ancestral dreams while conjuring autonomous futures. by @newgenerationscholars

We are proud to celebrate @khalilmcf an alum of the New Generation Scholars Young Artist Archival Fellowship as he presents his solo exhibition>>> THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIGHT @thepealebaltimore Witness what happens when young artists are given the resources, space, and relationships to bring their visions into form. Join Khalil for his one-day exhibition exploring the intergenerational experiences shaping Black youthhood. The Truth speaks to the realities that shape who we are. As Khalil writes: “This body of work has blessed me with the accessibility and resources to materialize the aspirations of my past self… We are here. An eye for what’s real, a mean hustle and navigating this life with my loved ones has gotten us here. Genuinely, through the flaws and all, we here.” Seven woodworks. One day. A world imagined through the eyes of a young Black artist making space for himself and those who come after him.
