Amelie Quartet plays Parisian Jazz and World Tango this Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Muse

Amelie’s Parisian Jazz swings to life with the fiery, acoustic sound born in Paris—quicksilver guitar runs, percussive rhythm, and melodies that dance between joy and melancholy. Inspired by the virtuosic Hot Club tradition, the music crackles with improvisation and the old-world sultry cabaret sounds of post war France.

The quartet’s Tango music is passionate and nostalgic one moment and spirited and lively the next. It stems from the sultry streets of Buenos Aires and is fused with modern harmony and the rhythmic soul of World Tango.

SAT. OCT. 17th - I’ll be accompanying a curated montage of silent films, creating a live, improvised soundtrack on the spot. With Halloween on the horizon, this special treat of a show celebrates early 20th-century experimental cinema, weaving together snippets of horror, surrealism, comedy and more.

Andy Wheelock & WHEE3TRIO with Gilad Hekselman - Sunday, Oct. 11

A rich blending of Jazz, Afro-Latin, and West African musical inspirations are at the heart of drummer Andy Wheelock’s melodic and joyfully dancing compositions with his latest project, the WHEE3TRIO. While using the timbre and pentatonic offerings of the wooden xylophone-like Ghanaian Gyil as a composing tool, Wheelock pictured the inventive voices of pianist Walter Gorra and bassist Gonzalo Teppa to orchestrate sweeping landscapes, intricate dance rhythms, and Afro Pop-tinged street party tunes that are full of joy, and rhythmic surprises.
