MUSIC PEI PRESENTS: JURY DUTY We’ve been hearing some rumours of favouritism surrounding our selection process for awards, grants and programs, and we want to do what we can to clear it up! Music PEI’s decision process for the Music PEI Awards, Investment Program, Artist Development Programs and more are adjudication-based which means that decisions are made by jurors from the music industry from all across Canada and the world. Jurors are rarely drawn from individuals actively working in PEI’s music industry because it can be difficult to retain impartiality with such a small community. To make it even more airtight, jury members are required to sign a conflict of interest form and disclose any conflict of interest when assessing a project. Once you’ve submitted your application, Music PEI staff review it to determine if it meets the program’s basic eligibility requirements. All eligible applications are then reviewed by an assessment jury of approved jurors who have been assembled by Music PEI. Jurors are instructed to use their best judgment when scoring, applying criteria fairly within the context of each project’s style and genre. This preparation ensures they are equipped to assess applications thoroughly and uphold Music PEI’s commitment to supporting artists and developing the Island’s music industry. Want more info? Check out the “How Decisions Are Made Page” on our website, linked in bio! What is the Music PEI Investment Program Survey, and why does it matter? The Investment Program is Music PEI’s primary funding mechanism, supporting Island creators through: Commercial Recording, Marketing & Tour Support (Artist I, II, III) Market Access Fund & Microgrants Music Business Development Golden Ticket & Diverse Voices And more! This is your chance to get your voice in! Are the application guidelines clear enough? What barriers have you faced? What suggestions do you have to improve how funding works on the Island? Your feedback goes straight to Music PEI staff to directly inform future program structure, priorities, and delivery for the next three years. Takes under 5 minutes 100% anonymous 🔗 Tap the link in our bio to fill it out! by @musicpei
Music PEI is deeply concerned by the experience reported by Vancouver band Rougaroux following an incident at Sportsman’s Club in Charlottetown. The PEI Human Rights Commission is clear that gender identity and gender expression are protected under the PEI Human Rights Act, and states that everyone has the right to use washrooms and changerooms based on their lived gender identity. Trans and gender-diverse people are part of PEI’s music industry, including artists, audiences, industry professionals, and leaders. Everyone, including touring artists, deserves to participate in our music scene with dignity, safety, and respect. Music PEI is committed to working with venues and partners that provide welcoming and respectful environments for all artists and audiences. We will not present Music PEI programming in spaces with policies or practices that deny trans people access to their basic human rights. TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS. by @musicpei
