Playing gigs shouldn’t mean navigating hard situations without support. Whether it’s assessing opportunities, setting boundaries, responding when something feels off, or helping create safer spaces in our music scene, these situations can be complicated to navigate - and musicians are often expected to figure it out as they go. Join Music PEI’s Ripple Effect initiative, in partnership with Good Night Out Vancouver, for an in-person workshop on Protective Spaces for Musicians on Wednesday, June 10 | 6:30PM–8:00PM at PEERS Alliance. This workshop will equip local musicians with practical, everyday tools they can use when playing gigs, considering work opportunities, navigating community spaces, and contributing to more protective and supportive environments in our scene. What makes this workshop different? It was developed directly from conversations with PEI musicians through a series of focus groups held over the past three months - meaning the content was shaped specifically for those of us navigating the music industry here on Prince Edward Island. Light snacks and refreshments will be available. Please RSVP at the link 🔗 in bio if you can, though walk-ins are absolutely welcome. Content warning: Some difficult topics may be discussed, including sexual harassment. We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. #bringingtheartstolife @canada.council by @ripple_effect_pei
Ripple Effect and @goodnightout_vancouver are teaming up to develop a new Protective Spaces for Musicians workshop - and we want your input. Through a series of three focus groups, we’ll talk with local musicians about what it takes to stay safe as performers: on stage, backstage, and within tight-knit music scenes. Topics will include creating safety riders, activating merch tables, navigating accountability in small communities, vetting collaborators, and curating lineups with care and diversity in mind. Your insights will directly shape a publicly delivered workshop and a digital resource toolkit that musicians across PEI (and beyond) can access at the end of the project. We’re looking for local musicians who want to help strengthen safer-spaces practices in our live music ecosystem not just for audiences, but for the people making the shows happen. We are prioritizing musicians from PEI but welcome other musicians all over the Maritimes to sign up! Let’s build safer shows, together. Sign up via the air table link in our Bio This project is funded by The Canada Council Of The Arts. by @ripple_effect_pei
Music PEI is now an official drop in Distributor of Naloxone! We encourage our members and all island artists to consider dropping in and picking up a kit. Dm us, call ahead, or just drop in to the Music PEI offices during work hours to get yours. Why keep a Naloxone kit? It saves lives, be there for those that need it within your community! Whether you keep it in public view on a merch table, keep it at the door of your event, or have it tucked away for when it's needed. Naloxone Basics to keep in mind taken from the PEI Gov Take Home Naloxone Program website - Link in bio/ @musicpei linktree In PEI, opioid-related overdoses are on the rise. Naloxone is a fast-acting medication used to temporarily reverse an opioid overdose until medical help arrives. Naloxone can restore breathing within 2 to 3 minutes. Call 911 even if naloxone is used. The effects of opioids last longer than the effect of naloxone, meaning medical attention is still needed. Naloxone may need to be used again. Naloxone is safe for all ages. It only works if you have opioids in your system. You cannot use naloxone improperly and it does not create dependence. It is safe to keep a naloxone kit on hand. If you have more questions about Naloxone the PEI Gov site in our bio / @musicpei linktree has many resources and community sites to learn more. We at Ripple Effect / Music PEI want to remind you to care about your community and you can never be too prepared. by @ripple_effect_pei
