Do wheels make a car? Getting the fitment and style right for a build is a make or break on many car builds, so for the first S550 Drift Mustang build in the UK we looked to the best in the drift scene @stromwheels with their DS-05 in 18x9 up front and 10.5 wide rears filling out the huge @rtrvehicles wide body kit and sitting on @bcracing_uk coilovers, giving us all of the adjustment and grip on track.
The DS-05 wheel looks incredible set against the Japanese crazy taxi style livery by @violentdiffin for the team taxi @what_would_dango_do.
Built by Mutant Engineering working with the best in the business we’re really proud of how this car has come together #drift #mustang #stromwheels #japanesestyle #jdm #usdm #builtnotbought #style #wheels #driftcar #cars by @mutantengineering

Finally with the Viper V10 Mazda rx7 FC being revealed I can share the next step of its development done at Mutant Engineering.
We last saw the car after completing the full roll cage rebuild and chassis stiffening where it then went back to JJM performance south lakes where John and the team had the cage work painted and fully built it back to a driving shell.
The car then was dropped back for the difficult task of making the car work as a car, this meant wiring and interior.
First up mounting standard door cards and dash within the fully caged shell.
With the roll cage cutting into the doors, I opted to fabricate a lower brace just above the top cage tube which allowed the door card to be trimmed back, and wrapping the door card fabric under the brace to give a super clean finish.
The dash was next, where I had designed the a pillar cage tubes to land forward of the main dash allowing the original dash mounting structure to be used and only very minor trimming of the plastic support structure without cutting into the top covering to flex around the cage bars. This along with trimmings to the screen vent panel meant the complete dash could be fitted giving a clean and complete interior dash.
The centre console needed minor work to clear the viper shifter mechanism and a new reinforced offset hydro bracket was made to prevent cutting into the stock console.
Then onto the mammoth task of wiring the factory lights and dash to work as stand alone and with the V10 engine. The factory stalks and switches are very different in the way they function but with help from an RX7 guru PIP (iykyk) I was able to work through the original wiring diagrams and integrate everything. The car now has a fully working dash, with rev counter, gauges, fully working lights, indicators and horn to be road legal… but we couldn’t stop there so a retro Bluetooth stereo was fitted and hooked up to the original door speakers although that v10 engine makes all the music you could ever need.
The car went back to @performancesouthlakes for bodywork with @cramptonscustoms so go check out the finished car and follow for more crazy projects.
Pleasure to have been a part of this incredible build. by @mutantengineering

Throw back to Tunerfest 2026 this summer where we had a little rust repair on @stefan_s27 stunning S15 before the event… but it was definitely worth it as along with our other amazing customer and friends cars we won best presented club stand.
Even an immaculately kept Nissan has a way of surprising us as we found the sill was separated from the body under the skirts.
We started on the drivers side cutting away the rusted sill and inner sections back to find fresh metal. With clean metal we could hand form a new inner sill that was then treated with copper weld through primer and fully welded into the body.
With the rear inner structure repaired, the @sr_autosource outer sill panels were shaped and seam welded to the body, whilst being plug welded to the lower sill to replicate the original spot welding process.
With the rear section repaired, we move forward starting with fabricating a lower inner sill section, then a middle sill with the correct metal pressing shaped in to maintain the original structure. This was again fully cleaned and protected between each stage and finally covered with the SR outer sills being seam and plug welded.
Onto the passenger side, which was in better shape, except for the front side skirt mounting hole which you can see was paper thin.
The outer skin was removed front to rear, each layer was cleaned back and minor rust on the middle sill section was repaired before the outer sill panel once again shaped and fitted to allow a clean weld line which once sanded back is invisible.
A light skim of filler on the shapely rear quarter joint was all that was needed before primer and a a coat of MIPA protector textured hard wearing paint was applied to the full sill area which sits under the plastic skirts.
A couple of minor floor panel repairs were done by hand forming repair sections which completes the main body work.
The rust had also eaten the bottom of both front wings leaving very little behind, luckily we could make new panels to replace what little was left of them. These were painted to match and finished the repair and everything reassembled.
We’re happy to know this S15 is now as solid underneath as it looks from the outside. by @mutantengineering

Time warp for me working on Rob @schassis_v3 super stock S13. After buying the car he and @jowens_zenki did an SR engine conversion getting the big jobs done before bringing the car to Mutant to get road ready.
First job was to sort out the intercooler pipework as the SR was taken from James S14 it needed a little bit of adjustment, firstly removing the battery tray and cleaning up the holes for the front mount pipework. We then had to modify some of the aluminium fittings on the pipework to clear the radiator fan and blank off unused holes.
Next up was sorting the exhaust after seeing the front pipe hanging very low misaligning the rest of the exhaust we found the flange was heavily warped, so a trip to the linisher was needed to adjust the angle and clean up the sealing face allowing it to fit correctly. We then revisited the exhaust and added in a flexi and new gearbox mount to ensure perfect alignment to the rear bumper and take any stress off the turbo.
A new throttle cable mount was made up and we repaired the commonly damaged gearbox mount threads in the body.
Although the engine conversion was fully completed it then began running rough so we did an engine health check which came back great so electrical investigation soon found a split wire in the coil power circuit so an easy fix.
The final thing to sort was the dreaded rust! Passenger chassis leg was unfortunately rotten where the stiffening panels overlap. All the rust was cut out and cleaned back before thick 3mm reinforcement panels were welded inside the open chassis and fully treated before being plated over with a final finishing panel returning the chassis leg to full strength.
It was great to work on a very standard Nissan S13 once again and driving it on the road took me back to when I got my first S13 as a standard road car before I started drifting. Thank you for the throwback by @mutantengineering

Fresh off the boat, this rare Nissan Silvia s15 spec R B package came to us for UK MOT preparation. The main requirement for JDM cars is adding in a rear fog light. To do this and keep it looking factory we fitted a standard fog light stalk to the steering column, this plugs directly into the existing wiring as is intended for the front fog lights, however; being a B package car it doesn’t have front fog lights so we’re able to tie into this feed for the new rear fog circuit.
Luckily the standard dash includes provisions for a rear fog warning light, so we fitted the correct Nissan pin wiring and a standard Nissan relay to an unused relay mount to keep everything as OEM as possible. We finished by changing one reversing light to a red bulb with switchable wiring so it could be reverted if required.
We then gave the car a full inspection before its MOT.
We also swapped the steering wheel back to the original Silvia wheel and serviced the engine with fresh 10w60 Castrol and K&N filter.
Finally we arranged for a new set of advan ad08rs tyres to be fitted once registered, which has now been done and it’s ready to make the most of the summer weather. by @mutantengineering

Popped over to @mutantengineering today, owner Brad is better known for building cars that go sideways, fast! But as a skilled engineer with years of experience he’s also one to trust with a set of brand new cheese balls and whitewalls! Thank you for the hook up as usual brother, can’t wait to do more work with you in future! 👀 this stage of the rescue/glow-up of @sweetnsour_lowrider is almost complete, we’ll be posting a vid soon before it heads back to owner @lowriderbaz for and Engine & Box! #lowrider #lowriding #uklowrider #uklowriding #laynplay by @mutantengineering
