Sometimes one step backwards = three steps forwards👣📶

1 year ago today, I had my second knee surgery on my right ACL. Missing a breakout sophomore season, then leaving me with one of the hardest decisions in my life so far.

Play and risk my possible future in track

Or

Take a step away, and possibly never play football again

I decided to take a step away from football this year, and prep my body to be 150% for the track season. I'm sorry to my football teammates, yall don't know how bad I wanna be on the field with yall.

#year2 #thankyouseniors #thankyoucoaches #comeback

I couldn't have asked for a better second year in this program. I actually wasn't projected to return this season due to a few set backs in my recovery process. I was mentally prepared to not compete, but physically, I never took a day off. But my right leg strength was/is still only 70%-75% the strength of my left. Doc's look for >80, so it seemed impossible to get a green light. Honestly, this drained me mentally, I had thoughts like, "If I not able to compete this year, what is there to work for?" I had to flip the switch, lock in, and reset my mentality. When the impossible came to reality and I received that green light, I put my head down even more and went to work. At first you could tell I wasn't up to my standards, but after weeks of continuously working 7 days a week, I had a PR at 70%. I was able to hang with some of the top dudes in the area, and this lead to us breaking another school record. Then continuing on at state, which we (the 4x100m team) placed 5th in the state. All year the 4x100 team wasn't a popular name in the state, but we managed to get on the podium.

KHS 4x200 Previous Record: 1:27.7, set in 2004

‼️NEW KHS 4x200 Record: 1:27.49, set in 2026 by (Benji Rice, Travis Shores, Khalani Berry, and myself)

This team and program have a strong core building. Kirkwood Track and Field is in amazing hands of the next couple years💯 taken in Kirkwood, Missouri by @muycooo

Seen this story before...

September 18th 2025 ---> May 2026

Same time of year (weekend), same field, same knee, same mindset🔒

Currently, my right leg strength is only up to 75% - still, PR'd❗️ in the 200m (5/7)

Though a lots been the same, there were many differences like:
- the surgery itself was more major (which elongated the recovery time)
- scar tissue (build up from 2 in the same knee)
-overall recovery took longer
Previous surgery:

I couldn’t of ask for a better first year in this program. I’m blessed to have this coaching staff and this senior class. Seniors, thank you for everything. For me, this is an end of era even though it’s only been a year. Thank you for making it special.

This era may have ended, but (4x1 guys) our names will be on that record board for hopefully a long time (tho trackflation is real). Odds were against us in prelims, but we came together. We ran the two fastest times in Kirkwood School history and coming 6th place All-State. People will remember this group.

It’s been a great year, one of the best experiences of my life. I learned and gained so much from this injury, and am very grateful for a smooth and successful recovery. taken in Hard Work by @muycooo
