#Super Eagles Squad Depth (Slide 1-2)

*Key factors for winning AFCON 2025;Setting up for Success*
1. Using a system or set up that works effectively for the players ; players should be allowed to play in their best positions.A more progressive play maker will be an advantage. Slide 1 is a proposed line up subject to tweaks by the coach.Slide 2, the preferred hybrid or 442 diamond( 4312) and traditional 442 will work in some situations but some matches might require the 433 formation ( 4213 or 4123 variants). Will love to see 4213 for a balance of stability and creativity, and to maximise the quality of players we have. However a 343/541 may be helpful in closing some games depending on the situation.

2. Timely and strategic substitutions: We need to sustain the threat upfront, however a change in formation to close the game on a victory note might *sometimes* necessitate the removal of forward(s) while still maintaining the bite in attack. Also tired players don't need to end the game when there is a good back up.

3. Using and ensuring the right strategies; more of forward passes; ensuring positional/tactical discipline;timely switches (from wing forwards) if need be; preparing for penalties and set pieces with specialist/more proficient players; using players with better crosses as fullbacks or wingers, not overlooking the defensive abilities of the fullbacks too; limiting long balls to when needed. Some defenders have little or no business with constant long balls bcos of their poor deliveries. These factors will surely bring out the best from SE in this tournament.

Congratulations to the Super Falcons for achieving mission X 🎊 🎊 🎊 🎊 🎊 , a massive and significant milestone.

3 POSITIVE OBSERVATIONS:
Apart from the the mission, the passion, the
determination , the unity, the quality ,the resilient efforts and the
Never give up mentality of the players , these other factors were instrumental.

1. Selection and Substitution:

#Relatively good mix of midfielders and forwards in most games played as a result of ability to observe and take some bold decisions to start more impactful players.

#Responding with the right subs or impactful players especially when the initial set up goes wrong.

# Using a more influential centre forward.

#Maintaining the defensive strengths.

Having a good starting 11 and using the bench more effectively will be good, going forward.

2. Formation: seems a 4141 formation with the right mix looks good against the opponents faced. It makes the team more dominant and offensive.

# When utilised, the concept of 1 defensive midfielder and 2 offensive midfielders (with box to box or recovery abilities) seems to be more effective for: midfield balance, offensive play, good transitioning, more numbers in final third and improvement in chances of scoring. A flexible 4231 did not really look effective because it is prone to lack of positional discipline that can be exploited by opponent.

3. Setpieces: working on setpieces and using the right players for setpieces were very useful.

Congratulations to #rasheedat10: best player of the tournament,#chiamaka nnadozie: best keeper, Coach Madugu: best coach #simplyesi_:for her MVPs awards.

Setting up for Success @WAFCON 2024
(July 5-26,2025)
Slide 1-5: 5 ways the team can set up against opponents
3 Factors to consider

1.Right selection and formation:
While a coach/team might be known for favourite formation , players' quality and the type of opponents play a major role as well. It is believed the coach knows who is fit and good enough to start a match ( slides above irrespective)
# While a weak or low block opponent might need a 433 ( 4123)/ 4141/442 formation, any opponent, particularly a good/ strong/ tactically disciplined side might need a 4231 or 4312 or 3421 with players maintaining positional discipline. A switch in formation might be effective if need be.

2. Recovery: a major factor for control. Using 2 DMs that can hold, move and pass the ball well will set up the team for quick recovery, stability and transitioning, particularly against a good and offensive side.

3.. The team can play better by limiting the use of long balls to strategic and objective long balls and maximising the creative outlets in team.Working on better passes, hold up and good finishing will make a lot of difference.

Wishing the super falcons a successful mission X experience.

*5 things needed for super falcons to excel in PARIS 2024 Olympics*
1. With Chiamaka Nnadozie at the top of her game (as usual), maintaining the defensive strength using the regular defenders and two defensive midfielders is crucial.
2. Playing more creative players behind the striker(s) is vital to fixing the goal scoring challenge;the trio of Echegini, Payne and Ajibade should work. They may also have to switch roles depending on the opposition challenge. This will work for a 4231 formation preferred by the coach. A 3412 with the right mix might also work if such tactical change is needed.

3.If Oshoala is not starting, then Okoronkwo or Kanu needs to start as they have proven to be more reliable centre forwards than others during the qualifiers. If Kanu can't start, it will be good she comes in either as striker or winger. Other forwards still need to prove themselves when they get their chances.

4.Working on long range shots, good final balls and being more creative with set pieces may be a way out in difficult situations
5.The coach has to make the right move/ substitution on time when needed.

*7 Points From SuperFalcon's(SF) participation @ the FIFA WWC 2023*

#1. A worldcup without losing a match in regulation time against strong opponents is a big plus.

#2. SF can compete with the best teams in the world with their display of passion, resilience, commitment, confidence and winning mentality.

#3. The Coach impressed with his squad selection and tactical ability. The friendlies played a role.

#4. The connection between the defence and midfield was *very solid* and there was quick transitioning upfront.Obviously, the dominant formation helped.

# 5.Accessing the plus factor➕️:
*GOALKEEPING (strong✅👌) ;
*STABILITY from defence and defensive midfielders( strong✅👌) ;
*CREATIVITY from flanks and centre( fair👌):
*CONVERSION RATE (fair👌):
☝️☝️The first two factors were the reasons we kept clean sheets and conceded just 2goals in 4 games WHILE the last two factors were responsible for 3 goals we scored without direct assist ( but from mounting pressure).

#6.Having offensive players in their right positions, better strategy of transitioning from defence to attack, more creativity and good finishing will help the team in their next competition.

#7.Winning another WAFCON and even Olympics is possible if we can improve and add some younger talents btn 18-21( from the last under20& under 17 WWC team); who can be a part of 2027 WWC.

The PLUS ➕️ Factor
One important thing winning teams or tournament champions have in common whether it is known or unknown to them is the plus factor. It gives any team an edge over the opponent, particularly teams with an attacking style of play. This could make the Super Eagles team a world class team.

1. Good goal keeping ( Apex of the Plus sign): The goal keeper must be reliable and should always bring in his A game . The Super Eagles team still needs to work on this area. There is a need for our present goal keepers to improve and get good competition from others who deserve a chance.

2.Stability and Creativity at the centre (Centre of the Plus sign): There is a need for stability at the centre from CDs and/ DMs. A creative player with the ability to move the ball, hold the ball in possession and create chances is also an advantage for any team. One thing that is also lacking in the midfield is the ability to take accurate long range shots. These skills are needed when playing against an opponent with well organised defence line.
3. Creativity from the flanks ( The Left and Right side of the plus sign): Offensive play from the wings is very vital, it is one of the best ways to link up with the strikers. This could come from the full backs / wing backs or wingers, It is expected that whoever is the Coach should ensure players with good offensive qualities (not underplaying the importance of defensive abilities)are selected to play on the flanks. The team has strengths in creating chances from the wings but sometimes, this has been marred by wrong selection . There is a need for the team to work on having good crosses from the wings. There is also a need for wingers to work on taking accurate long range shots when they cut in from the flanks especially in tight games.
4. High conversion rate from the Centre forward (The base of the plus sign): Whoever is the centre forward must be able to convert chances created to a good extent. Super Eagles already have strikers who can do this job well and even create chances.
A strong team must have atleast one or two players in the above areas.
