Toilets, in any public building, are often treated as an afterthought, let alone a toilet in a non-league football club. Unless Maximillian Worrell has anything to do with it. As director of London architecture firm @mwa.info and defender of @claptoncfc’s back line, Max was initially asked to renovate the changing rooms in the warehouse, which eventually led to the design and construction of a new toilet block.

Painted in all black and characterised by clean lines, the block offers shelter on rainy days and a moment of respite away from the crowds on busy match days.

To celebrate the completion of the outhouse, Worrell also teamed up with director Daniel Owusu to make a short film about the fan-owned club on the day of the team’s promotion last season. by @mwa.info

Thank you to the @architecturefoundation for inviting me to talk about M-WA’s recent work with Clapton Community Football Club, as part of the Post Press event series celebrating the publication of New Architects 5.

I also got to share the sofa with friends and collaborators - the filmmaker @daniel_0wusu who premiered a 16mm short on the toilet block, the architectural photographer @rikardkahn who took some brilliant images on film and the writer @matthew.mbd who led a lively discussion after the talk.

Thank you to the @zahahadidfoundation for hosting and all those that came along.

A link to the Architecture Foundation’s Substack which contains a transcript from the evening is in the bio. by @mwa.info

Some shots of the block from last month’s play off final, which the men’s first team at @claptoncfc won comfortably to gain promotion - congratulations 👏🏼 by @mwa.info

This project comprised a full renovation to an existing Victorian maisonette in North London.

A new large opening at the centre of the plan floods the living spaces with natural light, creating a double aspect and choreographs a beautifully crafted staircase with sunsets throughout the year.

A new enfilade, clad in quartered Sapele veneer, reconfigures the private rooms upstairs, converting what would otherwise have been a conventional hallway into a walk in wardrobe.

The house also has a new sauna at the top of the stairs and a music room at the bottom, for recording late night radio shows. taken in London, United Kingdom by @mwa.info
