Looking back over 16 years of business, it’s so fun to see all the designs we’ve created—and look at what stuck and what didn’t!

As the brand has grown, I’ve learned to lean deeper and deeper into our niche. Starting a business from scratch is incredible, but it definitely comes with a steep learning curve. I’ve had designs become huge successes, and I’ve had designs completely flop. But every single one helped me better understand our core community and what y’all truly love. I’ve even navigated a few name changes and fun ideas that didn’t pan out quite like I hoped.

As an entrepreneur and the visionary behind Sweet Baton Rouge®, my mind is always dreaming and thinking. For a long time, I worked way beyond the normal 9 to 5. It’s only in recent years that I’ve found the flexibility to pick up tennis, slow down, and spend more quality time with my family. I’ve slowly learned to stop chasing just the numbers, enjoy the ride, and appreciate the good right in front of me.

What started with selling t-shirts out of the trunk of my car with a $500 loan and years of ambition—and all the incredible people along the way—has been the most rewarding journey of my career.

As we inch closer to our 16th birthday on October 24th: What year did you discover Sweet Baton Rouge® between 2010 and 2026? Tell me in the comments! by @mwaguespack

What a month September turned out to be! From being interviewed by The New York Times / @theathletichq and printing our SBR x Magpie collaboration to seeing the shop full of familiar faces during our in-store pop-ups, every single day brought something to celebrate.

We launched our Geaux Pink initiative, prepped all the new fall apparel, and shipped out piles of packages every afternoon! Thanks to y’all, we’ve already donated over $1,400 from our t-shirt sales in September.

Heading into October brings us right to our Sweet 16th Anniversary on October 24th. It’s moments like these that show just how much love goes into this small business.

You may mostly see the fun we’re having, but there are days that are harder than hard—whether it’s managing heavy expectations or handling unexpected problems out of our control. But we promise you, we are always working for you. Even when it might not seem like it, we’re behind the scenes running on overdrive. Grace is always welcome in our little space!

Cheers to another month of doing what we love! taken in Baton Rouge, Louisiana by @mwaguespack

Hands down 10 out of 10 great weekend with my teammates as we won sectionals in Memphis but also the most special time spent with my son Brody doing all of this with him! I loved watching our team cheer for him and he cheer for them, watching us grow as tennis partners this season, something I will forever hold onto. I couldn’t be more prouder of you than I was this weekend! Core memories forever!! taken in Leftwich Tennis Center by @mwaguespack

Such a great weekend and experience for our 2.5 Mixed Team, and also as a mom and son getting to be a part of a State Team winning our division and getting to create these memories with Brody that will last forever! He was solid playing this weekend and his tennis is just getting started. I can’t wait to see him grow and play this sport, hopefully something we can keep doing.

I also loved getting to play on this team with my teammates Sharissa, Ana, and Caroline, who also played at State for our spring 2.5 team, winning runners up and playing at Sectionals with third place.

We have been playing together as a team for over a year now, and to see how each of them has worked so hard and grown in tennis has been so incredible to be a part of. Tennis has been so fun and challenging, and it keeps me working extra hard every week to play my best and to keep getting stronger and better, while also building friendships together. This year in tennis has taught me so much, and this game has humbled me to keep working and showing up.

I’ve learned so much from this team and grateful to have been apart of it. by @mwaguespack

From shirts to scholarships, Meredith Waguespack built her business from the ground up and has put BTR at the heart of all of it. Last Saturday, we caught up with her to hear about the Ultimate Tailgate and with vendors to hear what makes BTR better for them!

Take a peek into what our day looked like the day before set up for the Ultimate Tailgate! We had some last-minute prep and pickups. A huge thank you to Mele Printing for taking care of all our paper goods and sponsor corrugated signs. Thank you as well to @cocacolaunited for donating water to keep us going!

We also had to mark the streets (only for it to rain hours later and wash some of it away, go figure!). We delivered an order to our friends at @magpie_cafe around 5 PM on Friday night, then headed back to the store. I worked on items for the Venmo Wall, while Emily printed more of our Petey Tote Bags (which, by the way, we still have a few available in-store and online!). We grabbed dinner from our neighbors at @bin_77, packaged up a ton of pending orders, and finally called it a night around 9 PM.

The next morning, we were up bright and early. We both planned to arrive at 5:30 AM to walk the streets and fix those washed-away markings. This year, we implemented a vendor load-in flow that worked so smoothly, and we were so appreciative of how great everyone did.

Beyond getting our store ready, we hosted two amazing vendors inside—a big thanks to @poshpopgp and @joesbakerybr! Outside, at our main tent, you may have seen @s.m_mcneese helping us out again this year. We also set up a new tent right outside the store to greet everyone, hand out flyers, and take orders for the Ultimate Tailgate Giveaway and Petey Tote Bags.

A special thank you to our corporate sponsors who joined us out there: @origin_batonrouge, @visitbatonrouge and @redstickcoverage. We are so appreciative of your support!

It was a scorcher—I actually did a heat analysis after, and it hit 97°! (For comparison: the past two years were 90°, and 2023 was 103°!). But it was so much fun regardless.

No words can really express what it feels like to hit 100,000 orders last week. 🥹

I pinch myself all the time thinking about how this all started — with $500, a car trunk full of t-shirts, and a whole lot of hope. Watching that turn into something that feels like home no matter where you’re wearing it from is more than I ever could have dreamed up.

Thank you for every single order, every share, every time you told a friend. This one’s for y’all. 💜

Yesterday marked six years since we first opened our doors to a brick-and-mortar store! If you’ve been following along for a while or if you’re new here, Sweet Baton Rouge has been in business for almost 16 years. August 1, 2020, was a huge milestone for us when we opened at Electric Depot—it was the essential stepping stone to get us to where we are now at our perfectly purple shop at Perkins Rowe.

Over these 16 years, we have truly found our niche: t-shirts that feel like home, locally designed and hand-screen printed with so much love and small-town heart!

I had to walk through those first three years at Electric Depot to get to Perkins Rowe, and every single employee helped etch our path to the brand we are today. Year over year, we’ve experienced the highs and the lows, but it’s our customers—whether you walk through our doors or shop with us online—who make what we do feel so unique and beyond incredible.

We ran our business online only for the first ten years, with a few special ways to shop us in person, but these last six years of doing both have been a wild ride. Opening a store in 2020 was wild, but it remains one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am so deeply grateful for every employee and customer who has loved us big and carried us along the way!

Slide to see a few photos I took before we opened that year! This store was a dream to build out. Now that we've been in Perkins Rowe, we are starting a few touch-ups around the store to showcase it better and will be sharing those changes all month long!
