POSTS STORIES REELS

Welcome! I’ve seen some new faces around here so I want to reintroduce myself. I’m Rach and I’m the person behind the scenes at My Cuppa Coffee Books ☕️📚

I started Mycuppacoffee_books in early 2024 to help share and recommend books to friends and other book lovers.

The concept is pretty simple. After I finish my book, I write a review and rate it with coffee emojis. The ratings are based on my own personal criteria and are for fun and to start discussion on books. I love when people comment and give me their thoughts so we can talk about books because talking about books is my favorite!

If I really like a book I tell people that it’s my cuppa coffee. Typically I read 2-3 books at a time (a physical book, an ebook and listen to an audio book).

My favorite troupe is second chance romance and enemies to lovers. I also enjoy thrillers to change things up and get my blood pumping.

I love coffee and love discovering new quaint coffee shops wherever I go. If I’m not reading or drinking coffee, you can find me digging in my garden in the summer or making small craft projects on my sewing machine in the winter.

I am so happy you found my page and I appreciate all the support! by @mycuppacoffee_books

This was a very cute and enjoyable romance that I binged in one day!

Ramona is a famous pop star but her mental health is crap and she decides she needs to step away from the spotlight and focus on herself, so she retires. Part of her plan is to go back to college, so she enrolls at UCLA.

She meets Nick on her first day as he is her psychology teacher. Nick is fresh off his divorce and trying to rebuild his life when Ramona shows up and shifts his world off its axis. They start off on the wrong foot but all the tension builds into something more and soon they start a friendship that has a spark igniting between them. With his tenure review coming up and her life still not out of the spotlight, can they find a way to work it out for they will be caught in their extracurricular affairs?

This was a very sexy student and teacher romance. It didn’t seem forbidden though because she is an older student (26) and he was in his late 30s. The gap didn’t bother me and they did address it and seemed to both think nothing much of it. I like how forward Ramona was. She was the one who initiated the flirting and went for what she wanted. She loved to rile him up and while he tried hard to keep his composure, she just made him come completely undone.

I enjoyed this book but it left me wanting more. Some of the plot points seemed unfinished and others were wrapped up too nicely in a tidy bow. I wanted more about her relationship with her parents, especially her mom. I also wanted to see more from his niece and sister. Overall a fun and sexy romance!

When she is willed the eggs from her friend Merrit after she passes away, Bea decides to honor her friend and have a baby with Merritt’s eggs. With her mother strongly against it, Bea finds herself kicked out of the house and starts looking into alternative housing. This is when Silas steps in and offers his house for her since he is not there often when he’s off fighting fires. The sparks between these two have been going since high school and have never been extinguished but now that there is nothing in their way, they are going to find out if they can heal and support each other together.

Something in the way Tarah Dewit tells a story that makes it so romantic and whimsical, even though heavy topics such as the ones in the books. You are transported into a place where these characters are the perfect balance of together and broken. It’s a feeling you get from falling in love with reading for the first time all over again and I savor that feeling every time I read one of her books.

Sprunes, Oregon and the Byrd family; I will miss you but I’m so glad I was able to visit and meet you all. It’s been an absolute pleasure!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. for sharing this book’s digital advanced review copy with me in exchange for an honest review.

Sloane is a wedding photographer who is growing tired of the big budget weddings. For 6 weeks every year, she closes shop and goes on the road during storm season to take part in photographing storms. Her main goal this year is to win the coveted cover photo contest held by Nature Shots magazine. Part of her mini crew is Wes, known as Wild Wes for his recklessness when out chasing storms. He has always been thorn in her side with his jabs and pokes at her. When his carelessness catches up with him and leaves him without a car, Sloane reluctantly allows him to ride with her as she wants to win this competition fair and square and that’s by beating one of the best, Wes.

As she spends time with him, everything she thought she knew about him is turned upside down and she sees a side of Wes that he’s never shown her before. As the chase for the photo is on, so are the feelings she develops for him. Can they survive this storm together?

I’m going to start by saying, this cover is amazing! It’s what drew me to this book at first and as I was listening to it, the writing really solidified that I was going to love this book or should I say that I would be blown away?

I really liked both Sloane and Wes and together they had this magnetism that paired them so perfect together. When forced together that’s when she sees the real him and is able to peel back the layers he puts out for others to see. Yes he’s goofy but he’s also very caring towards others and has his own parental issues just like she does. Also, the way he was pining for her and her being oblivious was so adorable. It made her re-think every interaction she had with him. I loved it!

The description of the storms and the careful way the author tells us that while beautiful, they can be destructive was really well done. She didn’t gloss over the harm these storms can do to towns and how the community really needs to help each other.

This book was the perfect balance of romantic, thrilling and informative.

This book! Can I just start by saying how refreshing it was to read a fantasy standalone book?!? Don’t get me wrong, I love a good fantasy series, but it was so cool to get a big fat fantasy book and just immerse myself into a world for a few days and then everything is concluded and life continues on! No waiting 2 years for another one to come out or scouring the internet with theories and finding hidden easter eggs

This book gives us Harlow, the youngest daughter of a powerful magical family. Each sibling has a special power and hers is the poison kiss. Everyone she kisses dies.

When her family arranges a marriage to Henry, the heir from another powerful family, Harlow thinks she will get out of it by kissing him but when she finds out hes immune to her position she must switch tactics and try to find out some intel for her family and to keep them safe from the Drained (vampires) who live in the forest and are trying to attack their walled city.

This book had it all!
Fantasy world
Magical powers
Political rivals
Rebellion
Vampires
Spice

I never wanted this book to end. It was just what I needed! I had wild theories about it and the twists and reveals were so shocking and satisfying.

Bex is the family disappointment by always being irresponsible and constantly screwing up her family plans, at least according to her stepmother Jessie.

But when her father, stepmom and step sister die in a train crash, the family travel agency needs to be saved by her. Determined to not let her family down, Bex decides to team up with her fathers partner in London, Theo, and do a reality TV show.

These two can’t stand each other at first and have prior prejudices from what they have been told of the other but they eventually learn who each other really are without the influence of her family. This follows them as they travel the world and film fake reality TV show and eventually fall in love.

Bex should have annoyed me so much with her lazy attitude but I actually really warmed up to her. She just said what she thought and we learned that she’s actually very smart and put herself down all of her life to appease her stepmother Jessie and make her step sister shine. She locked herself in a cage so she didn’t have to deal with her family issues and when she was told that she was a disappointment, she just decided to lean into the perception others had of her instead of fighting her way out.

I love that Theo, while he didn’t have a great impression of her at first, quickly realized his mistake. He stood up for her and gave her confidence by just doing small things.

I found myself irrationally mad at her father though. She talked about how he was such a great man, but he never stood up for his own daughter, and that was really hard to swallow.

Notes:
This book was listened to through the Libby app from my local library. Samantha Brentmoor is amazing but I will say I wasn’t a fan of the male narrator in this book. His english accent was fine but when he tried to do a Bex’s voice, she sounded British when she clearly was not.

Mercy wakes up from a car accident but doesn’t remember the last year of her life. The biggest realization of all is finding out that she married her late brother’s best friend, Grant, who she despises!

Oh boy did this synopsis suck me right in! She is trying to find out what happened in this mysterious year and she is gathering evidence piece by piece. It was refreshing, antagonizing, angsty, and mysterious all in one!

Grant did such a good job of allowing her to recover her memories at her own speed, but the way you could see how much he felt towards her came across through the pages so well. He yearned for her and the longing that he held for her gave me so much anticipation for when she hopefully recovered her memories or at least learned what actually happened in that past year.

Revealed slowly, bit by bit and one question a day, these two navigate and try to find each other again and see if they can recapture the magic of what brought them together in the first place.

This is just one of those books where you kept telling yourself “just one more chapter” because as each little piece was revealed it gave you just a little bit more glimpse, but also left you with so many more questions!

This book trope worked because of their past relationship. The fact that they knew each other was key and allowed for them to have this push and pull relationship that was magnetic.

I would also like to say I just loved that he was British and all his British mannerisms had me swooning!

Calamity: a great misfortune or disaster that causes widespread suffering or lasting distress.

Set in the south in 1933 this story follows Meg, an 11 year old orphan who is unadoptable and Birdie, a 24 year old spinster who has come to town to visit her sister.

What happens is a sweeping southern gothic tale of women’s suffrage, societal status and fighting for family. I laughed, I cried, I experienced joy and I experienced disgust.

I was captivated and the story flowed so effortlessly. The ups and the downs weaved so well you could not help to root for these underdogs. You would think there would be more to review with an audiobook that was 30 hours long but I encourage readers to go in with little knowledge and just enjoy savor the experience.

Highly suggest the audiobook. With the quirky southern dialogues and dialects, the narrators did a fantastic job of breathing life into each and every person.

Lilymoor garden in Maine has always been one of Sophie's places she loves. When her and her best friend Harriet visited years ago they swore that no matter where they were in life, in ten years they would meet up again at the gardens for the 200th anniversary.

Ten years later, Sophie is a gardner on loan from the New York Botanical Gardens and is trying to bring the gardens at Lilymoor back to their former glory for the 200th anniversary celebration. After the passing of Henry Gardner who owned the estate and gardens, his wife Ula struggled and some of the gardens fell into disarray and were closed off. The Estate has slowly been going into a decline ever since and she is working diligently to bring it back to life.

When she is exploring the grounds one day, she finds a blue door she has never seen and when she enters she is transported into a secret garden and there is a man inside. This man is Henry's great nephew Cyrus (Rus) and he's stuck in the mysterious garden.

As Sophie and Rus try to figure out how to get him out, she must ask for Henry's other great nephew, Oliver, to tell her what happened all those years ago that caused them to become estranged in hopes of finding out the secret to allow Rus to leave the garden.

Whimsical and romantic, Ashley Poston always delivers with the magical elements that are intertwined into her stories. The struggles that Sophie is going through after losing Harriet and being at their favorite place was sad but also you know Sophie was there at the estate for a bigger reason.

I loved the characters in this book! Everyone was so unique and while they all didnt get along, they were all wonderful people who held their morals high and respected each other. The love story was simple and sweet and felt so easy. You could not help but love Sophie and Rus together.

There are certain things that make me love a book and this one had almost every single thing and a new one that I didn’t realize I needed.

Hockey ✅
Second change romance ✅
Open communication ✅
Meddling mothers (new!) ✅

Becca is a travel nurse and she just accepted a contract in Atlanta. Theo is a star hockey player in Atlanta. Eight years ago, they had a young love that burned bright but he did not handle his dad’s passing well, shut her out and broke up with her. Becca wants to avoid Theo but when he comes into the hospital they reconnect and he tries to make amends. Becca is guarded and tries to stay away but they keep getting pushed together in situations.

Soon enough, they fall back into an easy rhythm and with the help of two meddling mothers, try to find the magic they had 8 years ago.

I really liked these characters and the maturity in which they handled reconnecting. The open communication and then forcing each other to have tough conversations was very refreshing. There was no judgement and they actually listened to each other’s feelings and validated them.

I thought that the support for each other came across very well and the burn was slow enough to make me get some anticipation tingles.

I lava this book so much! 🌋

Reese is on a forced sabbatical from her high pressure job in Chicago to come back to her hometown of Fontain, NC to help look after her mom after she underwent a brain surgery.

Reese cannot stand the quiet life in her hometown and is itching to work on something. She also can’t stand her mom’s next door neighbor Gavin, with his scruffy beard and shaggy hair and beautiful eyes and warm smile. She also can’t stand his constant flirting, but she also kinda likes it and him but she will never admit it.

When Reese decides to get her firm to invest in his family’s vineyard, they start to be around each other more often and their chemistry is unavoidable. He oozes charm and is persistent. He had this quiet confidence around him that Reese cannot fathom, since he only works for the city cutting grass while she has made millions and is very successful. Walls are broken down and Reese eventually learns the true value of happiness.

Reese was simultaneously one of the most frustrating and endearing characters I’ve ever had the pleasure to read about. She was brisk and standoffish but also was gentle and caring in a manic and uber organized way that made you want to scream at her for being so uptight. She is the queen of type A. I imagine that she was one of those women who had a RBF but then also could stop you in your tracks with a killer smile.

Gavin was punny and so laid back. The complete opposite to Reese and they somehow fit perfectly

Ashley has a way of making unlikable characters likable, and wanting you to actively root for them. Her writing is crisp and clean and her stories flow with tidbits of everyday life that resonate with my millennial self (I see you Joshua Jackson poster!) and make the story endearing. She forms a connection with the reader and you feel like you actually know these characters.
