“I am, therefore I create” - humans, pretty much since forever.

Some of the oldest artworks ever found date back tens of thousands of years. Talking about art, or not talking about it, doesn’t change that at all: it’s just what people do, no matter when or where. (And isn’t that marvellous?)

‘Before Words’ is a new work from Dirk van Wyk. 43” x 37, mixed media on board, $3600.

Today's Bluerock vignette features the exuberant 'Dancing My Way Out' by Dirk van Wyk. Now in his 80s, this artist has made his indefatigable Dirk-ness feature as prominently in his life as well as in his art practice. What does that look like? At least in part, maybe a lifetime of not taking himself or his fascinating artwork too seriously, while also treating the process with respect and reverence. (If he disagrees, we're hoping he'll weigh in in the comments!)

In front of this painting: the utterly winning ceramics of Andrea Revoy and beautiful canvases by Cecile Albi.
