“I am, therefore I create” - humans, pretty much since forever.

Some of the oldest artworks ever found date back tens of thousands of years. Talking about art, or not talking about it, doesn’t change that at all: it’s just what people do, no matter when or where. (And isn’t that marvellous?)

‘Before Words’ is a new work from Dirk van Wyk. 43” x 37, mixed media on board, $3600.

Today's Bluerock vignette features the exuberant 'Dancing My Way Out' by Dirk van Wyk. Now in his 80s, this artist has made his indefatigable Dirk-ness feature as prominently in his life as well as in his art practice. What does that look like? At least in part, maybe a lifetime of not taking himself or his fascinating artwork too seriously, while also treating the process with respect and reverence. (If he disagrees, we're hoping he'll weigh in in the comments!)

In front of this painting: the utterly winning ceramics of Andrea Revoy and beautiful canvases by Cecile Albi.

Beautiful blooms courtesy of my beautiful mother. She knows peonies are my absolute fave and brings a bunch over every year as a nice treat. ❤️

‘…along with the other animals, the stones, the trees, and the clouds, we ourselves are characters within a huge story that is visibly unfolding all around us, participants within the vast imagination, or Dreaming, of the world.’

- David Abram, from ‘The Spell of the Sensuous’

This is the transcendent, mighty ‘Earth Rising’ by Dirk van Wyk. Just here to take your breath away. 31 x 24, mixed media on board, $2,800; inspired by the David Abram book quoted above.

There are some pieces that are just so inexplicably wondrous! ‘Frayed Carpet, 4:27 a.m.’ is no exception. With its structured and intricate patterning coupled with the fluid strokes to create the carpet; it’s a truly fulfilling visual experience. #artsaveslives

Intricate, inventive, and mysterious: Dirk van Wyk’s new show is now gracing the gallery walls of Bluerock. We are only sharing glimpses here as you really must see these spellbinding works in person.

The artist says: ‘In my experience, God and Magic are usually in the realm of surprises and so there are elements in each piece that play on the edge of their own context. Reference to representation anchors them to everyday life but, metaphorically, each in the series strives to express an exceptional observation.’

‘God is Alive, Magic is Afoot’ will be on the walls until December 4th.
