It can be important to know your genetic predisposition can influence how your skin ages, especially with collagen depletion.

So what is collagen?
โœจ Collagen is a molecule produced by our body that provides structural support for cells.
โœจIt is found in skin, tendons, bones, and ligaments.
โœจ Collagen is rigid and resistant to stretching.
โœจIt helps to keep the skin firm and is important for skin elasticity.
โœจThe balance between collagen production and breakdown is an important factor in the aging process.
โœจLoss of collagen causes wrinkling and sagging.
โœจLoss of collagen leads to reduced skin elasticity and wrinkles.

The amount of collagen in your skin is influenced by your genes, diet, lifestyle, and other factors. The balance between collagen formation and collagen breakdown is influenced by several genes, one of which is MMP-1.

The MMP-1 gene produces the enzyme called collagenase which naturally helps to break down skin collagen and components of the elastic network of the skin. When there is an increase in collagenase activity, this leads to an increased breakdown of collagen fibres which results in wrinkles, sagging and the skin appearing aged.

Want to learn more about your skin profile? Taking a Personalised Wellness Test can tell you more about your genetic predisposition to collagen depletion.

Did you know this?! โ˜๐Ÿคฏ

Depending on your FTO gene variation when smelling, seeing, or even talking about food it can trigger food cravings! ๐Ÿซ

What does this mean? Our FTO gene links back to our appetite, how likely we are to gain weight, and our sense of being full.๐Ÿฅ™If this sounds like you then you may have the gene variant that makes you more likely to snack and need to control your appetite.

Our Personalised Wellness Test has some recommendations to help you get on top of this and be more informed about your nutritional needs.

Iron levels depend on several factors including how efficiently Iron is transported through the blood to the target organs, as well as how well Iron can be absorbed in the body. Some foods can influence your body's ability to absorb it. Vitamin C and foods rich in Vitamin C have been shown to enhance Iron absorption as it captures and stores a particular form of Iron (called non-heme) which is more easily absorbed by the body.

Depending on your gene variations, they might reduce your ability to transport Iron where needed and moderately reduce your body's Iron storage levels.

Here's how you could work on maintaining your Iron levels. Try to eat food high in Iron, such as red meat, fish, eggs, legumes, leafy green vegetables, and dried fruit. Also incorporate Vitamin C into your food, as it can increase iron absorption.

We always recommend consulting a healthcare practitioner to assess your current Iron levels.
