Allan Sheffield’s career is remarkable, transitioning from IBM in tech to finding his true calling in Healthtech with the founding of myDNA. Under his leadership, myDNA has expanded its services to 15 countries, including the USA, Israel, Southeast Asia, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The company is a leader in pharmacogenomic and nutrigenomic services in Australia, analyzing genetic data to help doctors make informed decisions about prescriptions.
It’s incredible that we can now discover which medications will work best for us, moving beyond the trial-and-error approach with our GPs. My personal favorite insight was understanding my caffeine tolerance, and I loved how the app revealed my ‘super-power’ for endurance exercise. I laughed as I told my husband, @kristianjmichelson Michelson, “This is why I enjoy watching dolphins on our runs while you sprint to the finish! But when we do gym workouts at home, you annihilate me with the HIIT training thanks to your ‘power gene’!”
Be Fit Food partnered with myDNA years ago to help customers understand their weight-related genes and appetite regulation, making health journeys easier. Allan’s company has a global footprint, especially after the 2021 merger with FamilyTreeDNA and Gene by Gene. In 2023, myDNA launched Lumi Health AU, focusing on reproductive genetic screening.
Allan’s story is a testament to the power of combining technology and genetics to improve health outcomes globally. Tune into ‘THE INSPIRED CEO’ on Ticker at 3:30 pm daily to catch the latest episode and learn how Allan Sheffield balances his work-life-family environment outside of work too!

I’m an avid coffee ☕️ lover, some might say I’m a coffee addict (only from the best baristas though), however I’m first to admit that the impact of too much caffeine is certainly not beneficial in any way. Like many people (around 54% of people according to my genetic test from @mydnalife ), I have a slow breakdown and absorption rate of caffeine which means it takes me around 45mins to get a ‘kick’. Unfortunately if I choose it in the afternoon, I may not metabolize it before bed. This means like 36% of people, it will disturb the quality of my sleep 😴 even though I can go to sleep with no issues I won’t get a proper recharging sleep. What’s worse than this though, is the effect of too much caffeine on our perception of stress and anxiety 😟, plus it can accelerate ‘burnout’ too. However, I’m not saying to cut coffee ☕️ out by any means, just find your personal caffeine tolerance threshold, and maybe get a DNA 🧬 kit from @befitfoodaustralia too, then take the steps in my article released in @bodyandsoul_au today. https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au/wellness/why-your-coffee-might-be-making-your-burnout-worse/news-story/615db56243410a1008a0d10b8bf1b4bd
