Recorded on the 11th of January 2025 in Wirksworth, Derbyshire at the Feather Star to a live audience, “Late Bloomers Still Rise (Live)” is FLORAL PATTERN’s first release to date.
The ethos behind releasing a Live EP first is to tear open the mental barriers of perfectionism that comes along with making music in the studio. The performances here are raw, authentic, and are the next best thing to being in the audience on the night.
The EP will be released to all platforms on 09/08/2025, alongside a release party on the same date at Dubrek Studios, Derby. More details to follow.
Hopefully these compositions and live performances warm you now the same way they did back in January.

Super excited to debut this weird electronicy DJ-with-no-decks show at the 20th Hockley Hustle and on such a stacked lineup.

Have a look at slide 2 for a little teaser but i would describe it as Modular-Synth Sample Jazz-c*nt. I'm kinda playing 4 instruments at the same time its really fun and I can't wait to build on this setup to have a full modular thing. But alas I can't even afford DJ decks so who knows how i'll move beyond my little semi modular east beast.

Dw I will be playing the saxophone too.

Then later on at 10:30pm I have the full band + special guests... but I guess you'll have to wait for that announcement post to see.

I've thrown together some of the clips of us performing with some BTS footage of us (I can't lie, we were so locked in with how amazing the festival was that we didn't manage to get a whole lot).

We Out Here I can confidently say was one of the best weekends of my life (so far!) and I have @hockleyhustle @the.hustlecollective to thank for putting on this solar powered stage and bringing this crazy Jazz project to Dorset.

The first half of the year has been WILD with the most incredible highs that have come with some lows. Constantly having to dodge and weave your own brain as well as the many obstacles that trying to create art under capitalism throws at you has been crazy. But the work is paying off and I'm figuring it out. We all are

Also shoutout to the lovely people that came up to us after our set and labelled us "the best act they've unintentionally stumbled upon all festival". I'll be using that.

After our set we hosted a jam with some of Nottingham's finest (it felt like a little Nottingham in the campsite). Shoutout to:

My favourite set of We Out Here was all of them. Go listen to the whole lineup. Seriously.

Between us we tried 10+ different flavours of Vegan Ice Cream.

We swam in the lake at least 4 times each.

We also had an incredible jam with some top tier musicians at the @tom_warriors tent.

And got to catch up with the ethereal @fayejams playing with @atmossmusic

"Mycelium"

The bones of Mycelium came into existence very quickly, but truly understanding what the energy in the song represents took over a year of workshopping and live performances. It became clear this tune reflects that something better is only possible through mutual support; leaning on your community can be incredibly scary, but euphoric too. We spent a full day hunting for the magic take to commit to tape, and the final take of the day was unanimously chosen as the one. What you hear is exactly that take, with next to zero edits, and all the full-hearted channelling of this song’s intensity and the emotions we experienced on that specific Sunday in February.

We had Pete Beardsworth (credited with producing Yazmin Lacey's Black Moon EP) producing this track in his home studio with an 8-Track TASCAM reel to reel tape machine and analogue desk.

Led by tenor saxophonist Mylie Noble, Floral Pattern are a powerful new presence on the Midlands jazz scene. Blending composed and improvised elements with vibrant layers of electronics, their music rises to euphoric, dance-driven climaxes that energise both band and audience.

Born out of the ‘Greenhouse’ improvised jazz-fusion jam sessions in Derby, the group draws on a strikingly broad range of influences — from the spiritual intensity of Pharoah Sanders to the contemporary groove of Ezra Collective and the electronic edge of Nerve — positioning them firmly at the cutting edge of UK jazz. inspired to post by @harbenkay go see their amazing improv!

just some shruti box improvisation for this evening, testing out some new recording setups. I find it uncomfortable recording in my little derby flat so hopefully theres some good opportunities to get outside and do this in the weeks to come.

shruti box is playing Cmaj7 without the G, im thinking about more floaty sounds which tends to sit with the #4maj7 sound. i love how comfortable this sound is to sit in for a long time (hence the long ass reel). I’ll do some crunchier stuff soon enough :)
