Last November I had the opportunity to create a meditative short film for this spectacular home designed by @craigsteely as featured in this month’s issue of @dwellmagazine

It was shot exclusively in natural/available light over the course of one, long but incredibly rewarding 12 hour day.

Craig’s request was that the film be without music, and instead soundtracked by the natural sounds of Hawaii to immerse the viewer with a sense of realism, and further illuminate the connection between the home and surrounding nature.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing some of my favorite frames and talking about the process and inspiration. More to come soon!

Exactly two weeks ago, I was flying to Tampa.
I looked out the window and saw it. The island.
Just a tiny white speck.

That’s where we filmed Silent Sermon.

From up there, it was almost invisible.

I can’t fully explain why it hit me so hard, but something about seeing it from that far above made everything click in a deeper way.

Silent Sermon isn’t just about Claus and his floating home. It’s about the questions we’ve all carried since the beginning of time:

What is our place on Earth?
Why are we here?
What makes us human?
How do we become whole again?

We released the trailer yesterday — and only realized afterward that it happened to be Earth Day.

Honestly, it was a total coincidence.
But somehow, it makes perfect sense.

These are a few grainy, imperfect iPhone BTS photos. But they’re real, human, as is this story.
