When did you last get outside? 🌿

One of the simplest ways to support your wellbeing doesn't cost a penny.

Getting outside β€” whether it's a walk, a trip to the shops or simply sitting in the garden β€” can help you feel better, both physically and mentally.

β˜€οΈ 5 reasons to get outside:

Lift your mood – Natural light and time outdoors can help you feel better.
Support better sleep – Daylight helps regulate your body clock.
Get your vitamin D – Sunlight helps your body produce this important vitamin.
Clear your head – A change of scene can help you feel refreshed and focused.
Make time to move – Walking and other outdoor activities get you moving without needing a gym.

And the best bit? You can fit it into the life you already have.

Walk a little further on your commute. Take your lunch outside. Meet a friend for a walk. Get off the sofa and spend a few minutes in the garden.

You don't need to make huge changes. Small Life Tonics can make a difference. πŸ’š

So, can you find 20 minutes to get outside today?

Your Journey. Your Tonic. Enduring Wellness.

Wellness at Work: Why It Matters πŸ’š

We spend a huge proportion of our lives at work, so perhaps it's no surprise that our working environment can have a significant impact on how we feel.

Workplace wellbeing isn't simply about offering a yoga class or putting fruit in the office.

It's about creating an environment where people have the support, resources and opportunities to look after their physical, mental and social wellbeing.

For employees, a good wellbeing programme can support:

🌱 Better health
🧠 Mental wellbeing
⚑ Energy and motivation
🀝 Connection and belonging
πŸ’š Greater job satisfaction

For employers, investing in wellbeing can help with:

πŸ“ˆ Productivity
πŸ‘₯ Employee engagement and retention
🏒 Recruitment
πŸ“‰ Absenteeism
πŸ’· Overall business performance

But perhaps the most important thing is that workplace wellbeing shouldn't feel like another thing employees have to do.

The most effective initiatives are accessible, flexible and relevant to people's everyday lives.

That might mean movement and exercise, mindfulness and breathwork, nutrition, stress management, social connection or simply creating opportunities to pause during a busy working day.

At My Life Tonic, we believe wellbeing works best when it becomes part of everyday life rather than a one-off initiative.

That's why our corporate wellbeing programmes are designed around small, achievable Life Tonics that employees can incorporate into their routines.

Because supporting wellbeing at work isn't just about helping people work better.

It's about helping people feel better.

And when people feel better, they're more likely to bring energy, focus and positivity into both their work and their life outside of it.

Could your workplace benefit from a more holistic approach to wellbeing?

Read our latest blog or get in touch to find out more about our corporate wellbeing programmes.

We're all breathing, all day, every day.

But how often do we actually pay attention to our breath?

Modern life can mean moving from one meeting, task or responsibility to the next without really stopping. And when we're busy or stressed, our breathing can become shallow and hurried without us even noticing.

The good news?

Breathwork doesn't need to be complicated.

You can start with just a few minutes.

Try this simple technique:

🌬️ Find somewhere comfortable to sit or stand
🌬️ Notice how you're feeling before you begin
🌬️ Focus on breathing gently through your nose
🌬️ Inhale for a count of 4
🌬️ Exhale for a count of 4
🌬️ Repeat for around 20 breaths
🌬️ Notice how you feel afterwards

That's it.

It takes around 3–4 minutes and can be done almost anywhere.

With regular practice, breathwork may help support:
✨ Stress reduction and relaxation
✨ Mental clarity and focus
✨ Emotional wellbeing
✨ Energy and alertness
✨ Better sleep
✨ Greater self-awareness

Just like spending time outside, the benefit isn't necessarily about doing something complicated. It's about consciously noticing what we're already doing and giving ourselves a moment to pause.

Once you're comfortable, you could try it on the train, between meetings, after putting your phone down or before going to bed.

Start small.

A few minutes today is better than waiting for the perfect time to start.

We also have a selection of guided breathing techniques available in our My Life Tonic on-demand library if you'd like a little more guidance.

Have you made breathwork part of your daily routine?

Could connection be one of the most important parts of our wellbeing? πŸ’š

For a long time, wellbeing has often been seen as something we do alone.

Going to the gym.
Meditating.
Following a nutrition plan.
Going for a run.
Working on ourselves.

And while all of these things can be valuable, we're increasingly recognising something equally important:

We aren't designed to thrive in isolation.

Connection matters.

It's one of the reasons Community is one of the 5 Pillars of Wellbeing we talk about at My Life Tonic.

From personal experience, we've always enjoyed a group bike ride more than heading out on our own. Yes, there's the physical benefit, but there's also the shared experienceβ€”the conversations, encouragement, laughter and seeing the same views together.

And it's not just cycling.

Walking groups, yoga classes, running clubs and community activities offer something beyond the activity itself.

They give us:

πŸ’š A reason to turn up
πŸ’š Accountability
πŸ’š Encouragement
πŸ’š Shared experiences
πŸ’š A sense of belonging

Even simple interactions can make a difference.

A coffee with a friend.
A chat with a neighbour.
A phone call with someone you haven't spoken to for a while.
Laughing with colleagues.
Joining a local class.

They might seem like small things, but they help create the relationships and connections that make life feel richer.

Perhaps this is also changing how we think about self-care.

Looking after yourself doesn't always mean taking time away from everyone else.

Sometimes self-care is spending time with people who make you feel good.

You don't need to join a huge group or fill your diary with social activities. Connection can be as simple as making time for one person you enjoy spending time with.

At My Life Tonic, we believe wellbeing isn't just about what we do for ourselves.

It's also about the people we do life with.

So, who could you reconnect with this week? πŸ’š

Do you have a spare 20 minutes in your day?

You might be surprised how much difference just 20 minutes of movement can make.

Being active doesn't have to mean going to the gym, running for miles or completing an epic workout. It could be walking to the shops, taking the stairs, walking part of your commute or fitting in a short yoga or exercise session.

And you don't necessarily need to find 20 minutes in one go. A few minutes here and there can all add up.

Regular movement can support:

πŸ’š Mood and energy
πŸ’š Heart health
πŸ’š Brain function and concentration
πŸ’š Better sleep
πŸ’š Stress management
πŸ’š Healthy weight
πŸ’š Productivity
πŸ’š Long-term health

For me, the biggest benefit is making activity part of your routine rather than seeing it as something you have to find extra time for.

I tend to exercise in the morning because, quite simply, if I get it done early, I don't have to worry about fitting it in later!

A few things that can help:

πŸ‘‰ Find something you enjoy
πŸ‘‰ Do it with a friend
πŸ‘‰ Find a regular time that works for you
πŸ‘‰ Look for opportunities to move throughout your day
πŸ‘‰ Start small and build from there

Twenty minutes might not sound like much, but small actions repeated regularly can become lasting habits.

At My Life Tonic, we believe wellbeing isn't about doing everything perfectly. It's about finding small changes that work for you and that you can maintain as part of everyday life.

So, where could you find your 20 minutes today?

From Quick Fixes to Sustainable Health πŸ’š

What can you actually maintain?

For years, wellbeing has often been associated with quick fixesβ€”crash diets, intense workout plans, strict routines and challenges promising dramatic results in a matter of weeks.
They can be motivating.

But what happens when life gets busy?
Work. Family. Holidays. Social commitments. Unexpected events.
Suddenly, that perfect routine isn't quite so perfect anymore.
At My Life Tonic, we're increasingly interested in a different approach:
Small changes that fit into real life.

A 10-minute walk might not feel like much.
But do it consistently and it adds up to more than 60 hours of walking over a year.
Going to bed 15 minutes earlier.
Taking regular breaks from your desk.
Drinking a little more water.
Moving your body in a way you enjoy.
Taking a few minutes to breathe.
Getting outside.
Making time to connect with other people.
None of these sound particularly revolutionary.
And that's rather the point.

Sustainable wellbeing isn't about being perfect. It's about finding things you can realistically repeat.

It also means being flexible.
Missed a workout? That's OK.
Had a busy week? Start again.
Didn't follow your routine yesterday? Don't wait until Monday.
Just pick it back up when you can.

Because wellbeing isn't a challenge you complete.
It's something you build into your life.
And perhaps success shouldn't only be measured by the number on the scales or how much weight you can lift.
Feeling more energetic.
Sleeping better.
Feeling less stressed.
Having more confidence.
Enjoying movement.
Feeling connected.
These are all meaningful measures of progress too.

At My Life Tonic, we call these small, achievable changes Life Tonicsβ€”things that help you feel better and support your wellbeing without needing to completely overhaul your life.
Forget the quick fix.
Find something you enjoy.
Start small.
Make it realistic.

And, most importantly, make it something you can keep doing.
That's where sustainable health really begins. πŸ’š
What small habit makes the biggest difference to how you feel?

Why do so many people leave a yoga class feeling calmer? πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ’š

One of the comments we hear most often after a yoga class is:

β€œI feel so much calmer.”

A taxi driver once told us that he wasn't into yoga himself, but he always noticed how many people came out of the yoga studio smiling.

It got us thinking… when else do you get an hour where you don't need to be anywhere other than here?

Yoga isn't simply about stretching or getting into impressive poses.

A large part of a yoga practice is about being present β€” combining movement, breathing and focus to give your mind something to concentrate on.

For an hour, you're not thinking about the meeting you have tomorrow, the jobs you haven't done or what happened yesterday.

You're simply moving, breathing and paying attention to what's happening right now.

In that sense, yoga can become a moving meditation.

And then there's Savasana.

That final few minutes of lying still can sometimes be the most important part of the whole practice. It's an opportunity to stop, release tension and simply be still.

Yoga isn't a cure for anxiety, stress or other mental health challenges, and it shouldn't replace professional support where that's needed.

But making time to move, breathe, slow down and step away from everyday pressures may help us feel calmer and create some much-needed space.

And perhaps that's one of the biggest benefits of yoga.

It's not necessarily what happens to your body on the mat.

It's what happens to your mind.

At My Life Tonic, our yoga classes are designed to give you that space β€” whatever your experience or ability.

An hour to move. An hour to breathe. An hour to simply be here.

**What a weekend! πŸ’š**

The day after a busy weekend of teaching retreats, we’re feeling very grateful β€” and slightly tired!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and, more importantly, **really entered into the spirit of the weekend.**

We had **17 ladies getting together for their annual (unofficial!) school reunion**, who decided to try something completely different as a group.

And then we had two 3-hour Wellbeing Retreats, with people coming for all sorts of reasons:

πŸ’š Mother and daughter time
πŸ’š A birthday gift shared with a friend
πŸ’š Some much-needed time out
πŸ’š Husband and wife time
πŸ’š An excuse to catch up with a friend
πŸ’š And people who simply fancied trying something new

We also had people come on their own β€” including a lady whose husband hadn’t booked in time! πŸ˜‚

And that’s probably what we love most about these days.

**Everyone comes for a different reason.**

Different ages. Different experiences. Different levels of yoga. Some regulars, some completely new to us.

But everyone is welcome.

There’s something really lovely about seeing people arrive perhaps a little unsure about what they’ve signed up for, then watching them relax, have a go, challenge themselves, laugh, connect and ultimately spend a few hours doing something **just for themselves**.

Because wellbeing isn’t always about making huge changes.

Sometimes it’s simply about saying **yes to something different.**

So, if you’ve been thinking about joining us, our next Wellbeing Retreat dates are:

πŸ“… **Sunday 15 November**
πŸ“… **Sunday 24 January**
πŸ“… **Sunday 7 February**

πŸ•™ 10am or 2pm starts
πŸ“ Cookham
πŸ’š 3 hours of yoga, relaxation, sauna, cold water and healthy treats

Link in the Bio

And with Christmas not too far away, perhaps it’s an ideal gift for someone β€” or something you could do **together in the New Year**.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us this weekend. You made it what it was. πŸ’š

**We’d love to welcome you next time.** taken in Cookham by @mylifetonic

Curious about Intermittent Fasting?⏰
Intermittent fasting has become increasingly popular over recent years, but is it something that could work for you?
Rather than focusing on what you eat, intermittent fasting focuses on when you eat β€” creating periods where you don't consume food.

There are several approaches, including:

⏰ 12–16 hour fasting – extending the time between your evening meal and breakfast.
πŸ₯— 5:2 – eating normally for five days and significantly reducing your calorie intake on two days.
πŸŒ™ 24-hour fasting – fasting for a full day once or twice a week.

The important thing is finding an approach that fits into your life.

At My Life Tonic, we're interested in changes that can become sustainable habits rather than short-term fixes.

Potential benefits associated with intermittent fasting include supporting weight management, improving blood sugar regulation and insulin sensitivity, and potentially supporting heart health and reducing inflammation.

But fasting isn't a magic solution β€” and it certainly doesn't mean bingeing during the hours when you're eating!

It's also worth remembering that fasting isn't suitable for everyone. If you have diabetes, take medication, have a history of eating disorders, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under 18, or have other health considerations, it's important to speak to a healthcare professional before trying it.

Ultimately, wellbeing isn't about finding the perfect approach. It's about finding something that works for you, fits around your lifestyle and can be maintained over the long term.

We've explored the different approaches, potential benefits and things to consider before getting started in our latest blog.

Read the full blog to find out more about intermittent fasting.
