A few weeks ago, I was introduced to the story of an 11-year old boy with a very simple dream: to become an engineer.

The boy’s name is Dominion.

I came to know about Dominion through the World Literacy Foundation Youth Ambassador Programme @worldliteracyfoundationyouth @worldliteracy_foundation where he was assigned to me as my fundraising profile. I didn’t know him before this, but reading about his dreams and the circumstances that could make staying in school difficult made his story stay with me.

Like many children his age, Dominion has dreams for his future. But sometimes, having a dream is not enough. A child also needs the opportunity to keep learning.

That’s why I’m raising $350 (about 470,000 naira) to support Dominion for an entire academic year, helping with his school fees, learning materials, and educational needs. I believe that if 200 people give ₦2,000 each to the fundraiser, together we can bring Dominion one step closer to his dream of becoming an engineer.

I deeply believe that Dominion’s future is worth investing in. If you can, please donate. If you can’t, sharing this post could help us reach someone who can❤️

Donation link is in my bio.

is a graduate!

This is the episode where Dolapo officially graduates from the University of Lagos. It took me nearly 8 years to see this dream become a reality, and I’m immensely grateful.

Thanks be to my God, who holds the time and seasons in His hands, because I got tired of waiting at some point.

I’m grateful to my parents, my sister, my family, and friends for all the support I’ve received over the past few years leading up to this point. It indeed took a community to raise me and see me through university.

I’m grateful to my wonderful local church in school (The Lagos Varsity Christian Union). I’m thankful for a church that kept me grounded, deepened my spiritual life, and kept me sane most times.

About two weeks ago, I co-hosted the fourth edition of the Writers’ Picnic (supported by @irlembnigeria and @friendsofirelandng). I was super delighted to be hosting the session with Mayowa Fagbure (@mayowafagbure) since joining the picnic as a guest in the premiere edition in 2023 and then as a host last year. Super duper glad to have found community with writers and to have an avenue with which I may think, talk and feel with them.

Once again, thank you for asking me to host again, Mayowa. Thank you, @jamesonngr for hosting us within your space!
I’m so glad to have met everyone (@mclaniyisapphire @clintdurueke @moyosolaolowokure @_flowersexpress @oduwolebayo @evidence_egwuono @raywrites_books @kinglawalsalami @inkpharm).

And to my babe, @ugothegood: thank you for documenting the day & for making this cut. by @mynameisdolapo

"Na God hold the roadmap of my life, I no fit lost" - Dolapo, 2022.

7 years later, Dolapo is a graduate.

I said goodbye to studying at the University of Lagos on Monday. A journey meant for four years took six painful and hard ones. My university experience was filled with A LOT of ups and downs. I am eternally indebted to God, my family, my local church in school (@gloriouslvcu ), and my friends for helping and supporting me. On days when I lost my mind and didn't want to go on, they helped me rise again. What a privilege and honor it was to have spent the last six years with them.

Here's to trusting the One who writes the story of my life, now and always.

BTW, I think my shirt's inscription is really cute. I've had the inscription for the past 2 years🤭.

Day 5 - Ojude FASA

Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong on this day. I’m so grateful for my babe @gushing_torrents , who kept reminding me not to give in to sadness and frustration. This day marked the end of my final year week celebrations, and despite the chaos, I’m thankful for a week filled with pure enjoyment (work and classes too, sha).

It truly takes a village, and I’m so grateful for mine (peep my babes on the last slide 😊).

Wore sneakers for the second time in my adult life—and let’s just say, these pictures made it totally worth it.

Day 2 of Dolapo’s Final Year Week Chronicles – Denim Day 😊

Has the Unilag journey been easy? No.
Do I love studying English? Yes.
Do I love studying English at Unilag? No!

I’m thankful for my friends and my church family who have made my stay at Unilag memorable and easier. What a privilege it is to do life with such wonderful people. What an honour to be friends with them and to know they always have my back.

I absolutely loved my entire fit for this day —I can’t even lie! 😚💅🏾

For as long as I can remember, I’ve never been the kind of child to do just one thing, but reading and writing have always been at the core of everything I do. My mummy would always return from the market and her travels with “story books” for me. I would even go hungry in Junior Secondary School because I spent my money buying those ₦100 books. In JSS2, I took a bold step and wrote my first-ever book (it’s probably still somewhere in my grandma’s cupboard).

When I was applying to UNILAG for the second time in 2019, after my age prevented me from continuing the process in 2018 right after secondary school, it was easy to choose English Language because I had the impression that it was all about reading and writing, so it felt like a natural choice. From my first year until now, I’ve held my head high, proudly telling anyone who cares to know that I’m studying English by choice. I’m not here because I couldn’t get into Law or Mass Communication. I wanted English, and I got English — on merit, if I may add.

It’s been a journey filled with as many ups as downs, but through it all, I thank the God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, who has helped and held me steady — the One who has soothed me and strengthened me.

Last week Monday marked Day 1 of my Final Year Week celebrations, and I showed up as the proud final-year English Language student that God is helping.

Our Fine Girl and leader of the #JweriTribe @mynameisdolapo looked absolutely stunning every time she wore Jweri🤭.

She styled the Dola earrings, pearl necklace, map of Africa necklace, and bracelets so perfectly!😍❤️
