WHY CONSIDER SENSORY FUNCTION IN REHAB? 🤷🏽‍♂️🤔 (read Caption)

1. Sensory receptors detect a change
Something happens in the environment or body: touch, light, sound, pain, stretch, etc.

2. Afferent pathways carry that information to the CNS
Signals go from receptors through sensory neurons into the spinal cord/brain.

3. The CNS processes and integrates the input
The brain and spinal circuits interpret the stimulus, compare it with goals, memory, and context, and decide what response is appropriate.

4. Motor commands are sent out
Only after processing does the CNS activate motor neurons to produce movement.

Why this matters
- Action depends on information: You need to know what is happening before choosing a movement.
- Prevents inappropriate responses: The same sensory event can mean different things depending on context.
- Supports feedback control: Motor output is constantly adjusted based on incoming sensory feedback. taken in MYOS Sport & Health by @myos.munich
