Hello! こんにちは! 👋🏾👞🇯🇵

Thank you for all the birthday messages!! OMG 51!!! It's crazy but this last year I’ve spent more time in Tokyo than in the Bay! 🤯 I know I haven’t shared many actual posts but I promise... I’ve been BUSY making shoes! 🫣😉

Anyways... if you didn’t know, I’ve been commuting back and forth between Oakland and Tokyo since April 2025 studying bespoke shoemaking under Master Shoemaker Noriyuki Misawa (@noriyukimisawa) at The Shoemaker’s Class... attending all available classes, sometimes up to 6 days a week.

Yep, I have really gone down the rabbit hole this time... what started as a desire to deepen my shoemaking skills has turned into a life changing eye opening incredible journey of learning, creating, experimenting, and completely immersing myself in a lost skill. I'm so grateful for this experience & proud to say that I have just ONE more pair (shoe #5 boots) to complete the Basic Course! 👞✨

Studying here in Japan with Misawa-san has been a deep meditation for me. The experience has challenged me to slow down, look closer, refine my technique, and approach shoemaking & life with an entirely different level of intention.

It’s crazy to look back and realize how much I’ve learned... not just about making shoes but about myself- patience, craftsmanship, creativity, and trusting the process.

Tokyo has become such a meaningful part of this chapter of my life. I’m deeply grateful to Misawa-san and his team (@yukie__kon & @sakurananoyoo) for welcoming me, sharing their knowledge so generously, and giving me the opportunity to learn alongside them. To learn from Misawa-san’s extraordinary craftsmanship has been such a gift... one that continues to challenge me, inspire me, and push me creatively & personally in ways I never expected.

One more shoe to go… and then on to the next chapter... because there is still so much to learn. 👠🥾👞

Meet Misty (@mzztrzz) • She’s an Oakland-based shoemaker with a deep respect for craft & method, material intelligence, and thoughtful making. A beloved member of the @heirloomleathercraft community, she completed the our full Artisan Training program in 2012.

Her own words: “I joined @heirloomleathercraft as part of the first group of students in 2012 and couldn’t leave. What started as a place to learn about leather became a never ending affair with exceptional craftsmanship & pushing my creativity. Plus a supportive, vibrant community. So I have been traveling back & forth to Japan since April 2025… grateful to be studying with Master Shoe Artisan @noriyukimisawa & his team. 🇯🇵👞

Sorry I haven’t posted much about it on my feed… I’ve just been busy learning!! But please follow along in my stories. ❤️

Anyways… I’m so proud to share that one of my shoes will be displayed at this year’s exhibition!! 👠

So excited I found this on @airbnb It was such a pleasure spending the morning with Rio & Aya. I loved getting a behind-the-scenes peek into their workspace—it was the perfect way to experience a different side of shoemaking.

This workshop is a wonderful introduction for anyone curious about making their own shoes. The instructions were clear, everything was thoughtfully prepared, and the process was approachable from start to finish.

Rio was incredibly generous, sharing tips, tricks, and tools that will help me continue creating more pairs in the future. I always appreciate learning from fellow makers who are so passionate about sharing their craft.

I highly recommend this workshop to anyone looking to take home not only vibrant memories of Japan, but also a beautiful handcrafted pair of shoes you can proudly say, “I made these!” ✨👞

Hello friends!

Thank you to everyone who has been following my stories on my shoemaking adventures. Well I’m back in Tokyo and had a couple of days off before finishing up shoe #3 @theshoemakersclass… so naturally, I spent my day off making shoes! 😄

I’ve been following @art_atelier_du_travail for many years, and it felt like fate when I stumbled across their @airbnb experience.

What a wonderful way to spend the day—learning, creating, and connecting with fellow artisans. And honestly, there’s nothing better than putting on New Shoes!! ✨👞

How is October over already??!! This month, actually this year has been, well a LOT.

I still can't believe this happened... #50... not 500!! 😂 But really, wha' the??!! A half century??!! NOOOO way??!!😳🫣

It was a perfect day- watched the sunrise, cocktail hour, dinner, singing, lots of laughs, surprise visits, silent disco & well can't end the evening without Pusoy!! ✨

I still can’t find the words to fully express how deeply grateful I am for this wonderful life. So blessed to be surrounded by so much love and laughter. Thank you for creating time for me, for sending me well wishes & for all the love. I appreciate you making the start to my 50th just as I dreamed. Here's to the next 50 years!! 🥳

Visited one of the New 7 Wonders of the World - Chichén Itzá. The Temple of Kukulcán was an incredible site but taking a dip in Cenote Zahamal to recover from the heat was amazing!!

This month has been an adventure!!

The Art of Sneakers Vol. 2! Thank you @solespacelab !! Jeff, I’m so grateful to be included in such an inspiring celebration of sustainability, creativity, culture, and community.

Being amongst such talented creators, each with their own unique story and style, was such an honor. I love being able to connect with others who share the same passion for creating, designing, and sustainability. I hope attendees left feeling as inspired as I did.
