A little stumble, a helping trunk, and a mother who never gives up.

As her calf finds its way out of the water, this elephant mother patiently guides and helps her little one, reminding us that even in the wild, some of life’s most beautiful moments are found in the bond between a mother and her baby.

Nature has a way of showing us that love, patience and protection need no words.

Sometimes, all you need is your mother by your side.

Small actions, lasting impact.

Our volunteers at Kanaan Desert Retreat have been getting their hands dirty, turning recycled glass into bricks while learning more about sustainable practices.

Through teamwork, a little hard work and plenty of enthusiasm, they are helping give discarded materials a new purpose. It’s a hands-on reminder that sustainability starts with finding better ways to use what we already have.

A big thank you to our volunteers for getting involved and making a difference! 💚

FAREWELL, HELLBOY.

Some personalities leave behind a silence that is impossible to fill. Today, Harnas feels a little quieter as we say goodbye to our beloved leopard, Hellboy, following his battle with cancer.

Born in 2011, Hellboy spent many years at the Harnas Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary, leaving his pawprints across the sanctuary and in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

His story began with tragedy. He arrived at Harnas as a tiny cub alongside Dolce and Gabbana after their lives were affected by human-carnivore conflict. At Namibia’s first wildlife sanctuary, they were given a second chance to grow, thrive and simply be leopards.

Originally named Ingwe, meaning “leopard” in Swahili, he eventually became known as Hellboy because of his rather questionable temperament. Over the years, however, we came to know a leopard with an enormous personality, endless curiosity and an unwavering love for food.

And who could forget those legendary jumps? Volunteers and guests watched in delight as Hellboy launched himself into the air to catch his meat with astonishing precision. Big piece or small piece, he was always on point.

Then there were his little oomphs. That unmistakable, guttural greeting from the grass before the magnificent spotted boy himself appeared. Those sounds were uniquely Hellboy’s, and we will miss them more than words can say.

Hellboy, you grew from a vulnerable cub into a magnificent leopard who gave us years of unforgettable memories.

Run wild now, darling boy. Jump as high as you like and catch every piece of meat.

You were loved. You were unforgettable.

And despite the name, you really were one hell of a good boy.

Rest peacefully, Hellboy. by @naankuse_foundation

2 DAYS TO GO.

The countdown to the inauguration of the N/a’an ku sê Ju/’Hoansi Eco-Village continues.

Recently, we had the privilege of handing over the certificates to the families who will be moving into their new homes in the Eco-Village.

For us, this moment was about more than handing over a document. It was about meeting the people at the heart of this project and seeing the excitement of a new chapter beginning.

Soon, these homes will become places where families can live, grow and build their futures.
And this Friday, we celebrate that beginning together.

Two days to go. A new chapter is almost here. 💚

For 26 remarkable years, Simba was part of the heart and soul of Harnas Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary.

She was a lioness with presence, personality and a wonderfully stubborn spirit. And, more often than not, she knew exactly what she wanted: food. 🦁

Feisty, beautiful and always ready for her next meal, Simba remained completely herself until the very end. Age may have slowed her steps, but it never dulled that unmistakable Simba spirit.

As one of the great matriarchs of Harnas, she became part of the very fabric of Namibia’s first wildlife sanctuary. For more than a quarter of a century, she was a familiar and much-loved face, leaving her pawprints on countless hearts.

And then, in May 2018, Simba became even more extraordinary.

Our girl began growing a mane, caused by an overproduction of hormones. This extremely rare phenomenon has been documented in only a handful of lionesses. Simba, naturally, wore hers beautifully. After all, if you’re going to be different, you may as well do it in style.

She became our famous “lioness with a mane”, unmistakable, unforgettable and completely one of a kind.

Through it all, Simba simply carried on being Simba. She enjoyed her life, her food and her days alongside Queenie, her longtime companion, who we know will feel her absence.

Darling Simba, saying goodbye after 26 years feels almost impossible.

You were feisty. You were beautiful. You were wonderfully unusual. You were a grand old lady of Harnas, and you gave us more memories than we could ever count.

Harnas will feel a little quieter without you.

But somewhere beyond this life, we like to imagine there is sunshine to sleep in, endless space to roam and, most importantly, a buffet that never closes.

Rest peacefully, beautiful Simba. ❤️

You were unique.
You were loved.
You were unforgettable.

And you always will be. by @naankuse_foundation

THIS WAS WILDFIT RANGER EDITION. 🔥

One wild morning. Three distances. And one powerful reason to keep moving.

Taking place alongside the Wildlife Ranger Challenge, the WildFit Ranger Edition gave us the opportunity to stand alongside the rangers who dedicate themselves to protecting wildlife and wild spaces.

A huge thank you to every runner, ranger, volunteer, staff member, supporter and partner who helped make the day possible.
And to the rangers: thank you for what you do every day. 🦏

A VISION TAKING ROOT AT THE N/A’AN KU SÊ JU/‘HOANSI ECO-VILLAGE ☀️

At the N/a’an ku sê Ju/‘Hoansi Eco-Village, a new chapter is taking shape.
What began as a vision for a more sustainable future is becoming a reality through community, partnership and investment in infrastructure that creates real opportunity.

In this video, Marlice van Vuuren shares the story behind the Eco-Village project and what this development means for the community.

From homes and essential infrastructure to reliable renewable energy, the project is about creating more than just a place to live. It is about building a foundation for opportunity, dignity, sustainability and long-term growth.

A major part of this journey is the new off-grid solar system, bringing clean and reliable energy to the Eco-Village and helping make more possibilities a reality.

We are proud to work alongside partners who share this vision and believe in creating solutions that can make a lasting difference.
This is more than a project. It is a future taking root. 🌍

Thank you to @SolarSaver and SIAAC for being part of this journey and helping turn the vision into reality.
