From meaningful conversations to bold ideas, the 56th Annual Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank and the 2026 Youth FIRE Forum reaffirmed one thing: the Caribbean's greatest asset is its people, especially its youth. As always, it was an honour to represent Saint Lucia, this time in my capacity as its representative on the Caribbean Development Bank's Future Leaders Network, engaging with young leaders, policymakers, development partners, and regional institutions to explore practical solutions to the challenges and opportunities shaping our region. Whether discussing innovation, climate resilience, economic opportunity, or the future of Caribbean development, every conversation reinforced the importance of collaboration and youth leadership in building a stronger, more resilient Caribbean. I return home inspired, grateful for the connections made, and even more committed to ensuring that Saint Lucia's voice continues to contribute meaningfully to regional dialogue and action. Another year. Another opportunity to represent the community which molded me into the individual I am today. On May 26th I had the privilege of participating in the National Youth Parliament of Saint Lucia as the Hon. Naeem Philbert, Leader of the Opposition and representative for Castries East. Youth Parliament remains one of the most important platforms for young people to engage critically with national issues, challenge ideas, and contribute meaningfully to the future direction of our country. The resolution debated focused on reparatory justice and the enduring legacy of slavery and colonialism in Saint Lucia and the wider Caribbean. As Leader of the Opposition, I argued that while the moral and historical case for reparations is beyond dispute, our pursuit of justice must be rooted in concrete action rather than symbolism. Reparatory justice cannot simply be about acknowledging the past; it must be about securing meaningful economic, social, and developmental outcomes for present and future generations while ensuring that the stories, sacrifices, and contributions of Saint Lucians are placed at the centre of that conversation. As always, I am grateful to every organiser, participant, mentor, and supporter who continues to invest in youth leadership and civic engagement. One year ago yesterday, I officially became President of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College Students’ Council. That day marked more than the aquisition of a new title, it marked the acquisition of a new type of trust. A trust placed in me by my peers to lead, to represent, and to reimagine what student leadership could be. Over the 10 months which followed, that trust became my compass. Together, we rebuilt systems, restored representation, and strengthened the foundation of student governance. We launched initiatives that will outlive our tenure, from revitalising sports and reforming structures, to documenting the Council’s history, restoring spaces for student life, and laying the groundwork for the Council’s hopeful transformation into an NGO. Each project carried the same message: that student leadership is not symbolic; it is structural, strategic, and powerful when used with purpose. This journey taught me that leadership is not about how loudly you speak, but how well you listen. It is not about credit, but continuity. And it is not about standing above others, but standing with them, building bridges between students, administration, and community, and ensuring that every voice has a seat at the table. To my team, my peers, and every student who believed in the vision, thank you. You reminded me daily why service matters. The story of our Council was never just about us; it was about those who will come next, building on the groundwork we’ve laid.
