Fifty-eight years with her, ten without.

It's hard to believe I've now lived a decade without my mom.

I still reach for the phone to call her sometimes.

When your youngest granddaughter calls you three times since 5:00am to tell you how excited she is to fly to Canada today and hug you at the airport. And then your daughter sends this photo. 💗 by @nancy_mcq

STORYTIME

Some friends and I were talking about our childhoods last night. We all remarked that the theme running throughout those years was 'Safety Last'.

No seatbelts, no helmets, no life jackets.

And our parents chain-smoked unfiltered cigarettes in our presence in non-ventilated cars and homes.

Judging from my fetching hairstyle (I'm on the far left), this photo was taken in 1970 or '71.

Every summer evening, 16 of my sisters, cousins and neighbourhood friends would pile into the back of an uncle's '56 Ford truck.

Check out the tailgate at half-mast.

This is how we travelled from Maillardville (in Coquitlam) out to Sasamat Lake. A 30 minute drive along a hilly and winding road. Every single night.

I'm sure my mom took this photo. She, my aunts and the neighbourhood mums were probably happy to get rid of us for a few hours every day. Lol! by @nancy_mcq
