Today is the 10th anniversary of my mother’s death. She died 364 days after my father and was just shy of 60 years old. Today I remember her and all the beauty and magic and positivity she brought to this world, despite having breast cancer on and off for 20 years. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about her but like she said, the people you love, they live on inside of you. I am her and she is me…

I got the leave the hospital at the end of my pregnancy with a healthy baby. I didn’t realize how lucky I was…until I met these brave women who weren’t as fortunate.

What started as a project looking at birth trauma ended in a spotlight on women who have suffered stillbirths and over the last three years, I have been sitting down with women from around the U.S., listening to their stories of grief, loss, survival and resilience. Special thanks to my editor @grace.widyatmadja for her support, insight and perseverance in bringing this to the NPR audiences. Read the story at the link in BIo!

Last week I had the great privilege of standing on stage the United Nations where after sharing a brief slideshow of my work, I received one of the 2026 IPC Professional Photographer Achievement Awards. The @ipc_photo_org supports and promotes photography as a tool for education, communication and cultural exchange around the world, highlighting global and humanitarian issues. I am honored to receive this award and feel even more motivated to tell important stories with my camera. Special thanks to @Sonyalpha for nominating me for this award, the awesome Sony family that came out to show support and the many familiar faces I saw around the room, reminding me of the beautiful photography community in New York, where I spent so much of my career pre island life.

Congrats to my fellow awardees @talfoto @justinblackphoto @jabinbotsford @douglasdubler @shirkphotography and to the up and coming photographers who will carry the torch onward and keep the flame ablaze.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re spotlighting the selected artists and the works they created in response to One in Eight, our Open Call hosted in collaboration with The @esteelaudercompanies Breast Cancer Campaign.

The selected works will be on display at Fotografiska Berlin and Fotografiska Stockholm throughout October, bringing these personal perspectives and stories into the museum.

Cancer has a way of simplifying life down to the most essential, the most basic, the most honest. My mom felt that without her hair, without one of her breasts, her disease had left her feeling like neither a man nor a woman. She didn’t see herself in the mirror and it was a mix of terrifying and funny. She had been stripped of so much of her identity and was forced to focus entirely on the things that did bring her joy, like her family. by @nancyborowick

Kando is a Japanese word that translates to a deep sense of awe, emotion and that feeling you get when you experience something truly profound. Sony Kando Trip 2026 was exactly that… and I am so grateful to get the invite each year. Without fail I left those 3 days in Stowe, Vermont with an overflowing cup of deep inspiration and a powerful appreciation for these friendships which will sure carry me through into the next year.

@visapourlimage and its mastermind @jeanfrancoisleroy gave me, and so many others, life changing opportunities. We got to share our life’s work on the walls of exhibitions, we got to drink too many roses with the most brilliant people and we got to be inspired and motivated to do the important work. His legacy will live on and I hope I get the chance to get back to Perpignan some day. by @nancyborowick
