25+ years working in clay, and for most of that time, I was a thrower.

It wasn’t until the final year of grad school, with my thesis deadline closing in, that I switched to slab-building and started working with bisque molds.

Bisque molds opened up so many new avenues for my work—new forms, surfaces, ways of working, and playing with clay.

I’ve been hooked ever since.

I’m excited to share the techniques I’ve refined over the years, and the excitement I still have for working in this way.

I hope you’ll join me for my live workshop next week.

There’s a replay available if you can’t make it live!

📅 Sept 22nd, 2026
⏰ 6:30–8:30 PM Eastern
💲 $65 US / $80 CAD

Bonus: you get instant access to my original bisque molds recording the moment you register!

Want to learn how to make better handles?

A handle may be a small piece of clay, but it has a big job to do eh?

Handles are where our hands connect directly to those of the maker, providing a great opportunity to say something new, and leave your mark as a potter.

In my free Handles 101 mini-course, you’ll learn my strategies for pulling a beautiful, comfortable, mug handle.

“Thank you, Naomi, this was helpful! Getting the handle position versus shape/volume was a revelation!” Kim

➡️ Ready to dive in?

➡️ Comment with the word: HANDLE to grab the handle mini-course now. 🤓

Heading home after a wonderful couple of days presenting at the 1000 Miles Apart Conference in Winnipeg.

It was one of those full-circle career moments for me.

You know, the kind that reminds you of the passage of time, how far you’ve come, and well, how damn lucky you are.

I first attended the conference as a participant back in 2013 when I was gearing up to apply to grad school to get my MFA, after many years out of clay.

So it was pretty awesome to come back as a presenter some 13 years later.

Thanks to all the volunteers, students, staff, participants (and of course my fellow presenters!), who made me feel so welcome, and asked such great questions.

Clay people are the best eh?

Testing out this new mug on this #mugshotmonday

Quality control is important eh?

Do you use your own work? I always learn so much when I do.

PS: this song “What to make of me” is on repeat in the studio these days ❤️‍🔥

New episode of Dishwasher Diaries!

This is mostly a Canadian edition, with one exception at the start (but I feel like Eric should be an honorary Canadian with how much he and his gallery support Canadian makers). 🇨🇦

I’d love to hear which one is your favourite!

Here are the makers featured in the video:

@ericbotbyl
@eikoceramics
@musingaboutmud
@joanbruneau
@sarahpikepottery

PS: I got this t-shirt made last year for NCECA and kinda want to make more 🤓

Anyone else in the “introverted but willing to discuss pottery” camp?

Prototyping some ring molds for my upcoming workshop!

Ring molds are just one of the types of bisque molds I’ll be demonstrating in my live virtual workshop on Sep. 22nd.

All of the mold I use are made with pretty basic tools that you probably already have on hand.

No messy plaster involved!

I’ve been using bisque molds for years and they are one of the best ways to hand-build consistent, unique-to-you shapes.

The live workshop is on September 22nd 🎉, and when you register you’ll also get instant access to my original Making & Working with Bisque Molds recording.

Whether you’re new to bisque molds, or just want a few fresh strategies in your toolkit, I’d love to have you there.
