One of our favorite things is when a story we publish gets the love it deserves. It’s so nice to see the comments and emails pouring in for this one, a deeply moving piece from Dr. Christopher Hartnick about how a patient helped changed him in a profound way at the beginning of his career, and the lasting power of this early interaction. Don’t take our word for it. Read it yourself! And if you like it, consider becoming a subscriber so we can keep doing what we do best — independently producing amazing essays. ❤️ Brilliant illustration by Jane Demarest. Thrilled to get to share this heartbreaking but hopeful tale, one of the 2025 Narratively Memoir Prize finalists, from Heather K.M. Lewis. We all loved this story from the very beginning. When Heather mentioned it was her going to be her first publication, we couldn’t believe it! Heather’s piece is so vivid in its details it feels like you’re there with her at every step. A must-read! With an amazing header illustration by Connie Noble. 🩷 (Head to our bio for the link.) #MemoirPrize2025 #MemoirPrize #NarrativelyMemoirPrize #Longform #PersonalEssays by @narratively

We’re so excited about our latest project: a collection of true, deeply human stories about the moments and memories that unfold in the outdoor spaces we tend, share, and live alongside.

It’s a collaboration with @scottsmiraclegro which is North America’s leading lawn and garden company, whose core belief is that “good can grow anywhere.” As you’ll learn in our series, that means finding family amid sprawling tulip beds, identity on muddy soccer fields, freedom in backyard Wiffle ball championships, community in coastal suburban carnivals, and hope in gardens smack in the heart of the concrete and chaos of NYC.

Our storytelling session at @hamptonstechweek is right around the corner for Wednesday morning, June 3!

The power of story in our lives, brands and businesses is a vital part of the success we experience. We live and breathe narrative every single day. Billions have been spent in advertising that tell and sell stories that do what? MOVE us towards emotion, love, action, and yes, investment. Investing in your belief, concept, your start-up, your product, your service.

As we know, it isn’t ultimately these external things that people invest in. They invest in YOU. YOU are the brand. Whether you realize it or not, every single one of us represents a story. The story of your company, the brand we believe in, a solution that will solve a problem or fill a gap in the market across companies.

As Hamptons Tech Week kicks off, we are excited to help guests think about how their story drives their entire purpose, North Star, and why.

All guests will receive sponsor merch and a @narratively subscription.

So excited to be sharing this amazing story from James McSherry, one of our finalists for the 2025 Memoir Prize. It’s a heartfelt tale about a young man getting into gambling at an early age, his fierce desire to become a writer and the serendipitous luck that came his way. An inspirational must-read! ICYMI: We recently published an essay by Mallory McDuff that is one of those essays we’ll be thinking about for a long time. Our readers, too. We’ve already heard from several of you saying how much this piece — about Mallory’s journey contemplating and exploring environmentally friendly end-of-life choices with her students — means to you. If you haven’t read it yet, don’t take our word for it. Check it out for yourself, and if you feel inspired by it, please share it with others to help create the ripple effect Mallory writes about in her piece. Link in bio.
