The Great Divide -

What happened to the days when “only” old men, who fought in WW2, argued politics in diners over breakfast? Young people could care less, as they (we) didn’t believe in “the establishment” anyway, even though our grandparents told us we should. Middle aged men & women had very little head for it either, because they were busy living, working, & raising families.

I tip my hat to social media & “biased news” for successfully using communication technology to create monsters & division amongst every age & demographic.

Who needs progress & actual conversations, when we have devices & media to stir up the worst in us all, from the comfort of our own living rooms? #politics #technology #nopeace #media #crookedviewsblog #crookedviewssubstack #crookedviewsmedium #truth

🎁💐Idit Harel Segal was turning 50, and she had chosen a gift: She was going to give one of her own kidneys to a stranger.

So Segal contacted a group that links donors and recipients, launching a nine-month process to transfer her kidney to someone who needed one.

That someone turned out to be a 3-year-old Palestinian boy from the Gaza Strip.

“You don’t know me, but soon we’ll be very close because my kidney will be in your body,” Segal wrote in Hebrew to the boy, whose family asked not to be named due to the sensitivities over cooperating with Israelis. A friend translated the letter into Arabic so the family might understand. “I hope with all my heart that this surgery will succeed and you will live a long and healthy and meaningful life.”

“My family was really against it. Everyone was against it. My husband, my sister, her husband. And the one who supported me the least was my father,” Segal said during a recent interview in her mountaintop home in Eshhar. “They were afraid.”

For Segal, the gift that had sparked such conflict in her family accomplished more than she hoped. Her kidney has helped save the boy’s life, generated a second donation and established new links between members of perpetually warring groups in one of the world’s most intractable conflicts. She said she visited the boy on the eve of his surgery and maintains contact with his parents.

Part 2 - Comedians (believing your own bull)
It has been echoed, “that every Comedian wants to be a Rock Star and every Rock Star wants to be a Comedian.” I cannot speak for the Rock Stars. I have however, been around and studied enough Comedians in 3 decades (myself in particular) to say with certainty that the analogy has truth.
THE BOOM - The 80s were not the invention of the Stand-Up Comic, but they certainly were the period that popularized the profession. At first, a handful of well-known Comics monopolized TV and a few nationwide clubs. Blame cocaine or that whole era of excess, but whatever the reason, Stand-Up Comedy and Comics alike became those Rock Stars, and many Comics who started out then, are still longing today to be as such - but never will again. Comedy was “everywhere,” and the public knew the names and schtick’s of the performers. By the 90s, it became so saturated, that it shot itself in the foot until there was no foot remaining.
Comics are the only people, who think about comedy as much as we do. The Road (90s) - For most, the “illusion” of a career and an extension of the fantasy (sex, drugs, drinking, money). In reality - it is a string of Honkey Tonks venues run by the purveyors of Boom opportunists, who took advantage of us.
The birth and enormous popularity of social media leveled the playing field and in the worst sense! Thirty seconds of silliness, that caught on, lead to Posers who do not have the ability to hold a live audience in the palm of his or her hand for an hour, achieving success and a nice income.
It comes down to believing your own bullshit! I have witnessed far too many people invent and create who they were, without the chops to back it up. Going through life (Comedy life anyway) believing in this made-up persona. They do not leave the stage having been brilliant and think to themselves, wow did you see that? They WALK IN THE ROOM spewing out this facade from every pore of their being and people buy into it. Integrity is lost on them - with regards to the artform as well as loyalty. They are the stereotypical Used Car Salesman!

#life #confused #dream #peace “Never, never, never give up!”
“Do less - stop trying so hard!”
“Do nothing and everything will be done!”
“No such thing as a failure who keeps trying!”

The list of inspirational quotes contradicted by metaphysical teachings is infinite.
Living in the middle is nothing short of the abyss. Attempting to conquer the world at sunrise, then spinning a 360 at dusk, placing it all in the hands of universal intelligence

I try. I try not to try. I am an Alpha level of being, then a Beta level. I am active, I am still. Mostly, I am confused - feeling unaccomplished and deflated, yet simultaneously inundated with ruminating agendas.

This “life” shit is hard, and I envy the simple, blissful, present, and satisfied, on this earth.

Had the absolute pleasure of interviewing the zine queen from New York City, @ayun_halliday for @narratively. Halliday offers a wellspring of sage advice for writers hoping to experiment with autobiography, comedy, and mixed media! Link is in my bio. ♥️

I’m thrilled to share a hidden history essay that I wrote about Solitude of Guadeloupe. You can read the full story on narratively.com (it’s the first thing you’ll see!), to whom I’m incredibly grateful for their patience, thoroughness, and feedback. If you go to the site, you’ll also get to see the incredible illustrations by @aliceyudeng—and you can see more of them on her IG, too, which I certainly recommend.

I hope you like this article. A lot of work from a lot of people went toward doing this story justice... double meaning intended.

Please share with anyone you think might want to read it. 🖤
