This is the face of someone whose cup runneth over with joy after a marathon sprint of work, ministry, life-lifing and more. Spent a week back in the Bay getting to work and play.

It was a surreal treat to host my work family at my family family’s home for our West Coast Church Collective offsite. Thank you @jaykimthinks for inviting us into this rich cohort and @chrisnye for having us invest in time together.

Following that was a few days of true rest in some of my favorite places — by the water, with good food, belly laughs with my people (esp @sepkhalili), and the nostalgia of my roots.

Ended the week preaching at my old stomping grounds, my beloved Awakening Church! It was a true gift to be on that stage again and felt like a rich deposit in my own encouragement to have the support and prayers of a church I called home for a decade 💙 I always say I am so blessed to have TWO homes now!

God is so kind to meet me where I’m at with exactly the sweet delights He knows spur me on. I love this life of mine, esp the community around me. by @naseemk

I moved to Portland 2 years ago this week (wild). As I ponder & reminisce on the adventure it has been, I also think about the “pinch me” moments. Moments like this weekend where a church in Bend, three hours away, would find me and give me the honor to preach there & to spend an epic weekend in beauty. Like who would have thought that would be part of my journey? It’s so surreal to think about the people we haven’t even met yet who will hear our stories, share our stories, and have our lives intersect. God’s so cool in that way, especially when we are also open to wondering with Him.

Yesterday I had the honor of preaching to kick off a new sermon series for our church on American Gods… and I decided to use Ecclesiastes 2 as the Biblical text to set the foundation for these series with a simple question: what are the impermanent things we are looking to & expecting to carry permanent weight that they simply cannot.

This is where idolatry slowly takes shape. Scripture reminds us this life is a vapor. Not meaningless // meaningful, but still, a fleeting vapor.

I’m sharing a snippet of how I closed the sermon because in times like this, the hope of new creation is one of the only things that gives me such a grounded peace. Thankful for a God who will restore and redeem the brokenness. Praying you’d find rest in this Jesus too 💛

**He takes the vapor and transforms it into rivers of living water**

Ended up being one of my favorite sermons to preach, especially to such a room of tender people I deeply love. Linking the sermon in my IG story if you want to listen in full! Preaching is such a humbling gift. Forever grateful that God desires to use my voice in this way right now. by @naseemk

my friend just texted me this candid of me from over the weekend… as I looked at it, my first thought was how perfect of a metaphor of life right now this captures. there’s such a deep sadness I continue to live in daily for Iran, the frustration over not being able to talk to my family like I feel entitled to, and the fear of the future. It feels like being buried in sand unable to get out. Add to that the regular day to day struggles of life, relationships, longings, disappointments, stress… the things outside of our control & that which we wish we could. We’re all experiencing that every hour.

And then right alongside that reality, there’s also the reality that I am not actually buried… maybe just my feet… but I’m breathing & free. there is light, there is beauty, there is wonder, there is sunshine (sometimes lol). What a tension to hold.

This season of Lent has been really aligned with the actual seasons for me. It’s been a long winter with some low lows and then a subtle blossoming into spring that makes me feel like I’m “thawing” :) I am in a state of learning to marvel at God and His invitation to trust His shepherding hand in new ways, esp when it feels like a valley. I’m signing more (solo in my car or at home; no one freak out). I’m stopping to smell the flowers. I’m looking out at the horizon that is eternal, not temporal. Already, not yet. Consistent. True. Held. Secure. There is more, friends. taken in Gearhart, Oregon by @naseemk

Yesterday I preached on John 1:1-5 — the poetic prologue that describes Jesus as Lord who dwelled and dwells among us. He is described as Light that the darkness cannot understand or comprehend. What must we make of that? It’s so mysterious.

In a word that is so dark both personally and corporately, I am reminded that the Light of Jesus isn’t just a platitude we say during Christmas - but a reality we cling to. We know the end of this story is that darkness has reached its peak and that the trajectory has a different end game. It was a gift to share this hope with my church family on the exact same day as the Persian holiday, Shabeh Yalda, which honors the exact same moment -> that darkness does not have the final say.

“There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”

one for the books: Kill Bill has been one of my favorite movies of life ever since I watched with my cousin in his Michigan basement when we were 16. It made me fall into the rabbit hole of Tarantino’s artistry, thanks in large part to both my dad & brother who educated me lol. this has always been my top of all his films. To watch it back-to-back in one sitting (and my first ever 70 mm experience!! WOW) with die-hard fans was phenomenal. Portland was one of only 9 US cities to host this screening that was completely sold out 🎞️

10/10… just wish my dad & brother were with me!! taken in The Hollywood Theatre by @naseemk
