A milestone moment for the Class of 2030.

Last week, our newest osteopathic medical students received their first stethoscopes - an enduring symbol of the journey they're beginning and the countless lives they'll impact along the way. These stethoscopes will be with them throughout their medical education at the Duquesne University Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine and into their future careers as osteopathic physicians.

A heartfelt thank you to @pomados and the POMA Foundation for their generous donation of these essential tools. Your continued support helps equip and inspire the next generation of compassionate, skilled, and service-driven physicians.

Welcome to the future of medicine!

Last week, we were proud to welcome the DO Class of 2030 to the Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine during Orientation Week. As the largest class in our history, you represent an exciting new chapter for our College and the communities you will one day serve.

Today marks the beginning of a remarkable journey, one filled with learning, compassion, resilience, and purpose. As you take your first steps toward becoming osteopathic physicians, you'll be guided by Duquesne's Spiritan mission to serve others, advance health equity, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of your patients.

Congratulations on reaching this milestone. We can't wait to watch you grow over the next four years and see the impact you'll make as the next generation of physician leaders.

Today marks a historic milestone for the Duquesne University Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Three years ago, our inaugural class began their journey as the first future physicians to answer the call to become osteopathic doctors committed to compassionate, whole-person care and service to others. Today, that same class begins their third year and prepares to take the next major step forward: clinical rotations.

For the first time, Duquesne-trained student doctors will enter healthcare systems across our partner network, bringing with them the values, knowledge and commitment to service that define our mission.

We couldn’t be more proud of how far these students have come, and we are honored to watch them begin representing what it means to practice medicine the Duquesne way.

The future of medicine starts here — and today, that future takes another step forward.

Learning medicine means learning how to serve wherever the need exists.

Last month, students and faculty from the Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine traveled to Jamaica for a medical mission experience that brought classroom knowledge to communities in need.

Working alongside our partners at CSI Ministries and JoyTown Foundation, the team provided care to adults and children through pop-up clinics in Highgate, Clonmel, and Kingston. Students gained hands-on experience assisting with patient evaluations, filling prescriptions, performing osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), conducting glucose screenings, pregnancy and urine testing, and using point-of-care ultrasound technology to support patient care enabled by GE Vscans.

Beyond clinical skills, the team also provided nutrition education and experienced firsthand the impact of compassionate, community-centered healthcare.

At the Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine, future physicians are prepared to care for the whole person—and make a difference wherever they are called to serve.

Today, the Duquesne University community gathered to celebrate a historic moment for the Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine.

We were honored to welcome Jim and Celeste Nasuti, members of the Nasuti family, and distinguished guests to campus for the unveiling of the College’s new building sign — proudly bearing the Nasuti name and cementing a legacy that will shape generations of future physicians.

One of the largest gifts in Duquesne’s history, the Nasuti family’s transformational support reflects a shared commitment to service, compassion and care for others. Their generosity will expand scholarships, strengthen faculty excellence and open doors for students called to serve communities in need.

The Nasuti family’s belief in Duquesne’s Spiritan mission ensures that tomorrow’s doctors will be prepared not only to heal, but to lead with empathy and purpose.

This week, we celebrate National Osteopathic Medicine Week — and the physicians who embody compassionate, whole-person care every day.

In a recent conversation, Dr. Amber Fedin, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the Duquesne University Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine, reflects on how her Pittsburgh roots shaped her commitment to serving underserved communities. Her story highlights the heart of osteopathic medicine: meeting patients where they are, understanding their lived experiences, and improving health beyond the exam room.

At the Duquesne University Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine, medicine is more than knowledge and skill — it is mission in action. Through clinical training, community partnerships, and a horizon-expanding education, future physicians discover how medicine can heal not only individuals, but systems and communities.

Join us in celebrating National Osteopathic Medicine Week and the physicians dedicated to healing with purpose.

Last week, our Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine's Anatomy Department hosted its inaugural Donor Memorial Service — a meaningful tradition at medical schools across the country that honors those who make the selfless decision to donate their bodies to medical education.

This student-led ceremony paid tribute to the donors’ final act of service. Throughout the program, students shared reflections, music, and artwork to express their deep gratitude for the individuals they often refer to as their “first patients.”

Donor Memorial Services provide an opportunity to thank donor families and to recognize the profound impact these gifts have on the education and training of future physicians. The experience not only strengthens students’ understanding of anatomy — it also fosters respect, humility, and professionalism that will carry into their medical careers.

We are deeply grateful to the donors and their families for their extraordinary contribution to medical education. taken in Duquesne University by @nasutimed

From curiosity to cardiology research.

Meet Abbad Sultan, a first-year student at the Duquesne University Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine whose journey into medicine began at just 12 years old. After losing his brother to Beta Thalassemia, Abbad turned his questions into purpose — fast-tracking his education and graduating from the University of Washington in just two years.

Now in Pittsburgh, he’s a core member of UPMC Presbyterian’s cardiology research team, studying cardiac surgery outcomes and recently presenting his work at the 2025 Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Conference in San Francisco.

“The faculty go above and beyond to make sure we are prepared for anything,” Abbad says on choosing Duquesne. “I’ve already developed relationships with professors and feel comfortable asking questions and getting help. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

We’re proud to support students like Abbad as they turn personal experiences into meaningful impact.

Read more about Abbad’s journey at the link in bio.
