NEEDLEPOINT COLLECTION RELEASE TODAY!! It’s been 1 pandemic, 2 kids, & an interstate move since I last posted on my IG, but we are BACK!! My art is still mine, but just like my artist mom friends warned me, it’s different. I’m different. I have less time and more mess. Needlepoint saved the creative side of me. I needed art to breathe, but being a hyper realistic colored pencil artist in a tiny nyc apartment while also being a SAHM to two very little boys just didn’t work for me. But I still needed to create. And so I found needlework…what women and mothers have been doing for EVER. This is the ultimate mom art. It’s portable, clean, easy to jump in and out of. My favorite meditation. My solution to doom scrolling. But obviously as an artist I had to paint my own canvases, and now I get to share this art with you! Thank you so much for still being here. You are real ones for following my whole artistic journey, not just the high points. THANK YOU!!!

•This Is A Drawing• It’s called “La Paradoja” which means The Paradox. I’ve been feeling very contradictory these days...just like this drawing. I won’t go into why I named her that (it’s in an earlier post if you’re curious), but these days I’m feeling these feelings that don’t mesh. I’m obsessed with my new body, but I also can’t wait to not share it anymore. I am so ready not to be pregnant & meet my boy, but the thought of him not being inside me anymore is so devastating it physically hurts. I’m so ready to start this new chapter of my life, but I am petrified of it at the same time. Nothing makes sense anymore. But it all makes sense at the same time.

This drawing was never meant to be a self portrait, but I see myself in it every time I look at...regardless of where I am in life.

An all time favorite 🖤 all of my available work is in storage & I’ve been thinking about this beauty for the past few days...I feel like every artist has those pieces that are just 😚👌🏻 but take their sweet time finding their forever homes. This girl has seen some shit & I’m honestly shocked I still have her. From hanging in a @harvard gallery to flying cross country to show herself off in a California museum, and then making her debut in several magazines & even working it as a cover girl, she’s definitely earned her keep (that’s actually just a shortlist of what she’s done...this girl has gotten around!!). So I feel kind of guilty hiding her in storage...might have to hang her back up (which I’m sure will mean she finds her forever home as soon as I hammer that first hole into my smooth walls) 🥰 UPDATE: SOLD without having to put any holes in my smooth walls!! 🎉

Happy Friday!! So excited to be shipping this girl to her forever home today!! She’s headed to Florida to live in my own personal Florida Citrus Queen’s home...some pieces are hard to let go of, but this one never felt like mine...I know her momma too well & I am beyond excited to finally get to send her home. Did I mention her mom is the FIRST person that EVER paid me for my art? It was a beer pong table I painted in college & she insisted on paying me (I’d never sold anything before that & didn’t expect to be paid anything for the painting I was doing). She’s the first person that ever made me feel truly appreciated as an artist & I feel like her fiancé has no idea how special it was for me when he commissioned me to make this for her as a bday gift. Love you two!!

Drawing these pieces is already a very slow process, but these days I’m just getting slower & slower. I know y’all think I’m patient, but I’m actually just stubborn (perseverant if we’re being nice). So it’s torturing me to take this mammoth piece at the pace my body is a capable of rn. TORTURING. Like, just look at her!! I’m dying to see her done!!! She’s already killing me...that grapefruit? Are you serious?! Who is drawing this?!

This 20 week pregnancy photo shoot is the best money I’ve spent on this pregnancy thus far. I hesitated to do it because I knew I’d want another shoot in my third trimester, so I struggled to justify splurging for two shoots, but honestly I regret nothing. My body had already transformed so much by the halfway mark & I can’t wait to compare it to what my body will look like as we approach the finish line. Everyone seems to focus on the end of your pregnancy, and you constantly hear things like “if you think you’re big now...” or “if you think you’re uncomfortable now...” & I get it, there’s a lot left to go. But half way is a miracle, you’ve done so much, and it deserves to be celebrated/remembered/documented just as much as the end.

Something I’ve never talked about on IG: ADHD. I’ve got it, and I don’t like talking about it. I hate the stigma & the thought of potential employers/clients knowing scares the shit out of me (much more so back when I was in the corporate world). I don’t want it to be held against me if we’ve got a tight timeline or whatever & then they will think I’m not going to be able to complete the task. But you know what? I made this big momma PREGNANT WITHOUT ANY ADHD MEDICATION in just 6 short weeks! And no, that doesn’t mean I don’t need the meds, I really fucking do; it was torture. Like downright painful some days. But when I tell you I’m a bad bitch....!!!!

P.S. I hope no one takes this as evidence that ADHD isn’t real, or thinks what I’ve got isn’t that severe. ADHD is very real & I NEED my meds. What it took for me to be able to do this was super fucking human. It was BRUTAL on me in a way I haven’t felt since college before I was diagnosed. It took me back to such a nasty place where I felt like the laziest POS. I feel so bad for the girl that went until the age of 20 thinking she was never going to reach her potential because of how intensely lazy she was. I always knew I was better than my output & it was SO FRUSTRATING on a CELLULAR LEVEL. There’s no amount of therapy that will make my brain neurotypical & I’ll be back on the meds as soon as I can be...but that won’t be for a whileeee because BF...so im trying to figure out how to make this all work. The shit I pulled for this big momma is not sustainable. I’ll break. But also, FUCKKKK. Look what I did!!!

•This Is A Drawing• Here’s the big reveal of my first piece of 2021 & my biggest piece to date! She’s a whopping 3.5 x 2 feet of pure colored pencil on white cotton paper. I created this still life out of objects sent to me by the collector, where each and every single artifact holds some significance to their family. All together it builds a family portrait 🖤 I call it the Morning After (even though I don’t technically name my commissions), because building it felt like I’d been to the most fabulous dinner party and I was witnessing the aftermath of this party (the morning after when you wake up to the remnants of a party that went too late to be picked up the night before & you get to see it as it was...the BEST kind of party). From memories to inside jokes, I am so honored to have been entrusted with creating such a special family portrait that not only includes specific people, but goes so much deeper into telling their story.
