T h e b i g r e v e a l . . .

I can finally show you the painting I created whilst taking part in Sky Arts Landscape @artistoftheyear! Painted in four hours aboard a decidedly rocky HMS Wellington, I wanted to focus on the texture and constantly changing nature of the moving water in front of me.

I was a bit overwhelmed by being in an urban environment - not my usual painting habitat - so I chose a colour palette to offset the greyness of the cityscape and bring a bit of joy into the painting. I spotted a pink hut nestled between the trees on the Southbank and took it from there.

The whole experience was incredible, from making new artist friends amongst the other wildcards to meeting the judges and being interviewed by @evalangret.

In what has been my busiest art month ever, I’m excited to be taking part in this group exhibition at @tipsymares, a lovely new wine bar in Hove, alongside a wonderful group of artists. I’ll be sharing some of my latest paintings, including the two pictured here (swipe ➡️ for close ups)

The exhibition is open from 8th to 11th October, 12 - 10pm with live music on the evenings of 8th and 9th.

I’ll be there on the evening of Thursday 8th and from 12 - 3.30pm on Friday 9th.

Come along for a glass of wine and a great range of local art. See you there?

Another day, another exhibition! Today I’m set up at @lindfield_arts annual exhibition, showing new paintings inspired by a summer of swimming outdoors while trying to escape the heat.

Full of turquoise washes and deep bluey-greens, I absolutely loved painting these.

Set up day for ‘Nature’s Tapestry’, the exhibition i’m taking part in this weekend as part of @hurstfestival.

We’re at @dannyhouseuk, a beautiful setting in the Sussex countryside with plenty of public footpaths nearby so come for the art and stay for a sunny stroll!

Open 10am to 5pm Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September, or join us for a glass of wine on Saturday evening, 6 to 8pm. I’ll be there Saturday evening and Sunday.

A summer of painting about to culminate in TWO exhibitions this weekend (keep watching to see my little painting dance wiggle!)

1. @lindfield_arts annual exhibition this Saturday 26th September, 10 - 5 at King Edward Hall, Lindfield

2. A group show at @dannyhouseuk as part of @hurstfestival featuring 10 brilliant local artists. Open 10 - 5 on Saturday and Sunday, and from 6 - 8pm on Saturday for the private view.

My first ever fair! This weekend I joined a group of talented makers and artists at @themakersfair at @standennt.

I loved the conversations with members of the public interested in my work and curious about what I do. I also loved getting to know the other stallholders - over three days a really supportive community built and I got some invaluable advice from those who have many years of experience.

Taking part in a different kind of event also pushed me to make smaller work, which is new for me, and those pieces that didn’t sell will be available on my website soon…

This painting will be off to a new home this week.

Sometimes saying goodbye to something that’s been hanging in my home feels bittersweet… sad to see it go, but motivated to paint something new.

A September of not one, not two, but three(!) events starts in a couple of weeks when I’ll be popping up at @themakersfair at @standennt from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th September. I’ll be amongst a great line up of local artists and makers and I’ll be showing a range of prints, small original paintings, greetings cards and more. Scroll along to see some mini paintings in progress!

It’s my first time showing at a fair like this - fellow makers or veteran visitors, tips are welcome!

Most of my paintings start with very quick studies outside - sketches and paintings that help capture something about a place and provide a visual reminder when I’m back in the studio.
