Your neighbour is probably not your enemy. Granted - Maybe you have a really bad neighbour (we’re lucky) - but generally, even if the disagreements are real, they have the same life concerns - rent/mortgage, groceries, better life for their kids, getting screwed by the corporations -

Somebody’s making money off our hate for each other - off believing we are each other’s enemies.

23 years of marriage celebrated this weekend.

Recently I’ve been putting up posts addressing the rise in racism.

They’ve been met with some interesting reactions.

But all I can say in this moment is:

I am so grateful to have landed in Australia, where years before, my Nicaraguan-born, Latina/Fijian wife had arrived as an infant, and where we got to make music and raise 3 beautiful Australian children.

We met on a charity album project and we have not stopped making music together since. by @nate__hamon

I saw a funny racist self-own yesterday and had to share it.

Australia is a rainbow of cultures, ethnicities, races - people.

You want to talk immigration policies?

Fine.

But let’s take racism out of it.

A tiny % of people are benefiting from this direction of hate towards each other and it’s unlikely anyone watching this.

We are being manipulated to hate each other. We are being manipulated to fear difference. To fear different colours, different languages, different cultures, different ethnicities, even different opinions.

Who benefits from our hate?

Is immigration policy something that we could and should be talking about? Absolutely. But we cannot have serious, mature conversations and truly progress if we are trying to walk while being blinded by hate for the other.

Australia was built by many different cultures, but somehow that history is being ignored by too many. by @nate__hamon

Sat down with Nate Hamon — frontman of Mayan Fox, punk poet, author, and a bloke who’s run for Logan City Council twice because he actually gives a shit about where he lives.

Fifteen-plus years fronting a band he built from nothing. Three poetry books. A novel. Born in NZ, moved his whole life, did it rough before Logan became home. Nate turns whatever life throws at him into something he can put on a stage or a page.

We got into the parts that don’t make the highlight reel — including flying to Canada to play one last set for family before they passed. The kind of loss that reshapes a man, and what he’s built out of it since.

Different roads, same fight. This one’s real.
