I’ve started a theme now, posting people in the news (albeit sporting news) so here’s a shot of @bukayosaka87 I did for @newbalancefootball a while back.

Interesting story, part of this shoot required Bukayo to volley a ball over my head so we got a nice action shot (I should probably dig that out).

So I enlisted his brother to feed the ball in from stage right. Nice and simple.

I was shooting on an IQ3100 (a £££ camera) which has a delay between pressing the button and taking a picture which makes action pretty tricky. We did two shots and things were going well.

One of the challenges with this sort of shoot is keeping the energy up - after the first 10 goes it’s forgivable to start phoning it in. For those experienced (such as myself and Saka) this isn’t a problem. However Yomi (his brother) was understandably bored. This led to him changing the throw a bit, which in turn led to Bukayo having to step back further than planned, changing his angle, and firing the ball directly at my face.

In the split second it took for the ball to reach me, I moved the camera out the way and took the bastard clean to the face!

My mind swam back to the loathed football practice at school, cold October days, the sting of impact followed by the adrenaline-backed urge to pretend it didn’t hurt. To tell everyone within earshot that I was fine while internalising the fact that I couldn’t really see very well. The (understandable) mix of concern and mirth from bystanders. It was all so familiar.

Needless to say Bukayo was very kind about the whole thing and he’s only bought it up every time we’ve worked together since! by @nathangallagher

These are ‘The Amies’ as they are all named Amy* (which is a strange hiring policy but it seems to work)

They own and run @ameluxuryevents our paths crossed working on some @flexjetllc jobs.

There’s always something lovely about simple studio lighting.

Been meaning to catchup with some actual work on here.

Here’s a shoot I did with Run Deep for Tottenham Hotspur for their Third Kit launch. It was aaaages ago, but I’ve not bothered with social for a bit.

Anyone who knows me will know how little I know about football, but it’s always fun to photograph people with schedules tighter than an even-handed goal-less 90th minute game-day metaphor. 😁
