Native Earth Performing Arts is proud to honour our Indigenous kin through the art of storytelling. We continue to amplify Indigenous stories of truth, of hardship, of joy, beauty, and the challenges of existing here on Turtle Island.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we seek to remind our non-Indigenous allies and community members that your voices and your support are important.

We urge you to stand with us and hold those causing harm and inflicting violence upon Indigenous peoples accountable. May this day not only serve as a reminder of what has happened in Canada’s past, but also be an opportunity to do better, and be better today.

All Our Relations.
- Joelle Peters, NEPA Artistic Director

Meet Native Earth’s 2026-2027 Season Artist: ⭐️MARIAH ALEXANDER ⭐️
.
.
Artist Bio: My name is Mariah Alexander (Baashkooniingad Kwe, “Buds On The Tree Beginning To Open Woman”), and I am a mixed-Anishinaabe woman, and I am Sturgeon Clan from Walpole Island First Nation (Bkejwanong).

With a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Environmental Studies from Trent University and my work as an Indigenous Community Educator, I walk the space where academic knowledge and creativity meet. The land is my inspiration—its rivers, forests, and skies breathe life into my designs. I believe art and science are not separate worlds but kindred spirits, each deepening the other’s truth.

My creations range from Ojibwe designs to realistic portraits, brought to life by digital mediums or the classic beauty of pencil and paint. Through my work, I seek to express my emotions, forge connections to the natural world, and inspire others to follow the path of art with courage and heart.

You can follow my art at Mariah Alexander on Facebook, and @mariahbneshiins.art on Instagram.
