In addition to our onstage offerings this fall, we’re so pleased to once again support Native Earth Performing Arts’ Weesageechak Begins to Dance 39 Workshop Stream, supporting projects in early stages of development for artists seeking to explore their project without the pressure of a public presentation.

Weesageechak Begins to Dance is Native Earth Performing Arts’ annual performing arts festival showcasing new works and works-in-development by Indigenous artists across Turtle Island and beyond. Held each November in the heart of Regent Park in t’karonto, the festival is proud to welcome new theatrical, dance, music, and multidisciplinary works reflecting the breadth of Indigenous experiences, the richness of Indigenous arts, and offering a peek into Indigenous storytelling today and to come.

Our second #UTS2026 film FANCY DANCE follows Jax and her niece Roki as they search for Roki's missing mother, all while fighting to remain together.

Directed by @ericajtremblay (Seneca-Cayuga Nation), it is a deeply moving portrait of love, grief, and resilience—as well as a story that quietly asks whose understanding of family the law is willing to recognize.

Among the many injustices it confronts with a sharp eye and endless heart, FANCY DANCE opens larger questions about Indigenous kinship, colonial legal systems, and what happens when different understandings of care come into conflict.

As always, this isn't intended to be the definitive reading of the film, just one way into the conversations it invites. If you're joining us on July 15th, we hope it offers a little extra context to carry with you into the screening.

★ Wednesday, July 15, 2026
★ Pre-show at 7:30 pm, movie at sundown
★ Screening with NIIMI, dir. Dana Solomon (Sagkeeng First Nation)
★ Regent Park, Main Field

This screening is co-presented by our wonderful friends at @imaginenative, @torontoqueerfilmfestival, @insideoutfestival, and @nativeearthperformingarts.

The 38th Annual Toronto Fringe Festival starts one week today!

We have put together a quick How To for those who are new to the Fringe, and a list of what’s new for those who think they know it all.

We will host performances at traditional theatre spaces and pop-up venues spread out between Keele Street, Davenport Avenue, Pape Avenue, and Lake Ontario, with dramatic theatre, clown, dance, storytelling, sketch comedy, musicals, improv, puppets, and stand up, plus six KidsFest shows at @ypttoronto, and eleven days of free community programming at the Festival Hub at @soulpeppertheatre.

Theatre starts here, and we’ll see you there!

For our second #UTS2026 screening, we're honoured to present FANCY DANCE, a stunning drama that confronts the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls with remarkable honesty and care.

Since her sister's disappearance, Jax has been raising her niece Roki on the Seneca-Cayuga Reservation while tirelessly searching for answers. As the threat of losing custody of Roki grows, the pair set out across rural Oklahoma in a desperate search for Roki's mother before it's too late.

Both intimate and unflinching, FANCY DANCE exposes the systemic abandonment faced by Indigenous communities while celebrating the resilience, resistance, and love that endure in spite of it. Directed by Erica Tremblay (Seneca-Cayuga Nation) and led by a remarkable performance from Lily Gladstone, the film is a deeply moving portrait of family, survival, and the fight to protect one another.
