This week we lost the great writer, farmer, and conservationist Wendell Berry. He has a quote that says “People who own the world outright for profit will have to be stopped by influence, by power, by us”. He also said “My belief is that the world and our life in it are conditional gifts. We have the world to live in on the condition that we will take good care of it. And to take good care of it we have to know it. And to know it and to be willing to take care of it, we have to love it.” Go read and listen to Wendell Berry today!! #nativehabitatproject #Alabama #huntsvilleal #conservation #wheelernationalwildliferefuge taken in Mooresville, Alabama by @nativehabitatproject

This is for you Huntsville! We want the Big Prairie back before that opportunity passes us by! North of the river between Huntsville and Decatur was one of Alabamas largest grasslands. That open prairie combined with the Tennessee River is why we have hundreds of thousands of cranes migrating to North Alabama! Let’s bring it back and make right one of our wrongs! #nativehabitatproject #grasslands #nativeplants #alabama #bigprairie taken in Huntsville, Alabama by @nativehabitatproject

Seeing this and the progress being made is so awesome!! To think that you can’t go to the store and buy Alabama native seeds in 2026 is crazy but you can buy invasives and non-natives! The ones fixing that are @wildhorseprairie @roundstonenativeseed and @segrassland! It’s been beautiful to watch and i can’t thank @alaudubon enough for highlighting grassland ecotourism in Alabama with their annual Blackbelt Birding Festival! #nativehabitatproject #wildflowers #birding #grasslands #plantnative by @nativehabitatproject

Right after I made this video, I passed a sign saying do not pick any plants. I’m not saying to stop picking flowers I’m just asking that we stop picking rare flowers that are already in decline! #nativehabitatproject #gsmnp #smokymountains #wildflowers #cadescove taken in Great Smoky Mountains National Park by @nativehabitatproject
