tastes like, 2026 for Not at the Table

Not at the Table is deliberately undomesticated. The works on placemats reject the idea of ‘a seat at the table’ and questions what it means to seek place on stolen land. The counter-invitations from indigenous, and racialised artists and writers unsettle white ethnocentric assumptions around belonging, access, and guest-host relations in the colony.

@alicemccool and @yusufalihayat thank you for having me 🫶🏼

Jayda Wilson is a Gugada and Wirangu artist with Thai ancestry. Their practice focuses on the (re)telling, (re)memory and (re)archiving of their family history often told through poetics, sound and family archives.

Wilson explains, “‘(un)silenced’ (re)imagines the experiences of Nana not learning Gugada and Wirangu Wangga with my journey to (re)claiming, and the acts of speaking language on Country.’”

‘(un)silenced’ is featured in ‘Slow Read’, which continues until Saturday 25 July. ‘Slow Read’ draws our attention to the printed page and to quiet, deliberate acts of looking and reading. Free entry.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the opening of blak & (un)bothered and Monsters by @edwinharrisfaull_artist. The support is heartwarming.

A big thank you to @pop_gallerystudios for the invitation, @alexislookswest for the staunch catalogue essay, @ali_gumillya for letting me rummage through your racist text collection, @dominiceliseo for moments to let me brainstorm out loud and install, @stellaburgoyneahkit for offering to take photograph in film and everyone who heard me stress out about it 🫶🏼

blak & (un)bothered: you can hear it, smell it, taste it, feel it, see it.
colonisation is a sensual experience, a sensory archive of interruption all wrapped up in green and gold (aussie, aussie, aussie, oi, oi, oi).
