Natascha, also known as Nat Maks, is a marbling artist working with the traditional Japanese technique ‘Suminagashi’, blending heritage with modernity in her craft.

By experimenting with botanical sources, Natascha creates vibrant colours with an organic quality that reflects nature. Her marbling evolves into landscapes, in which she uses botanical inks to deepen the connection between her work and the environment, telling the story of a place through both its imagery and materials.

Natascha worked with us to create a wonderful limited edition silk print scarf inspired by our mural that celebrated our 235th anniversary. Crafted in Japan from the finest silk, this piece reflects Natascha’s distinctive visual language - merging heritage, innovation, and contemporary design.

The paper dances softly on the water’s surface, its delicate movements shaping each layer of the landscape. With every graceful turn, it creates something unique, capturing the rhythm of the water and the spirit of the moment.

A collection of landscapes will be exhibited with @ruup.and.form for the upcoming show ‘Subtle Connections’ opening 29th January.

Thank you to everyone that joined @natmaks workshop on Sumingashi-inspired Marbling at the gallery on Saturday.

During the workshop participants formulated inks using @polbensapothecary Layers of London pigments, and were then introduced to marbling, each making their own piece to take home.

Natascha Maksimovic is an artist exploring material, process and experimentation through a contemporary Suminagashi-inspired approach. Working predominantly on paper, she creates site-responsive landscapes shaped by both control and surrender, exploring memory, transformation and the material presence of place.

Her current body of work, Remanence, extends traditional marbling through a contemporary lens; capturing traces that emerge through movement, chance and material interaction.

If you missed @natmaks workshop, @polbensapothecary is hosting a pigment making workshop on 2 October and tickets are available through our website.

Join me at General Assembly this Saturday, 26th September for a hands-on workshop exploring the movement of earth pigments and ink across water.

Using pigments from Polly Bennett’s Layers of London project, I’ll introduce my Suminagashi-inspired marbling practice and the process of transforming earth pigments into floating inks.

Together we’ll experiment with colour, water and paper, creating a series of unique marbled artworks.

26 September 2026
10:30–12:30

Remanence: Westminster

The work began at the river’s edge… walking, observing and gathering across a quieter side of Westminster.

The gardens, streets and tidal shores of the Thames became both the landscape and the starting point.

What I gathered along the way would become the pigments, inks and colours from which my landscapes emerged.

This is where the journey began.

Water becomes both surface and collaborator… guiding pigment through breath and gesture to create expansive, landscape-like compositions.

The latest installation in The King’s Road Collection, Penhaligon’s creative partnership with QEST, ‘The Other Side of the Story’ brings together the work of four QEST Alumni exploring hidden histories, perception and the stories held within materials and objects.

Angela Fung, Sofia Karakatsanis, Natascha Maksimovic and Anne Petters each work with a different material; paper, wood, marbling and glass, revealing the transformation, technique and material knowledge that sit beneath the surface.

Coinciding with the launch of Penhaligon’s new fragrance, The Manoeuvres of the Baroness, the exhibition invites us to look a little closer and question what lies beneath first impressions.

📍 Penhaligon’s, 25 King’s Road, London SW3 4RP
🗓️ Until 1 November 2026

Layers of London

I’m so excited to be part of Layers of London, opening tonight at General Assembly Gallery.

For this exhibition, each artist was given a unique palette of pigments created by Polly Bennett from materials gathered in, or historically connected to, London. I’ve used these pigments within my marbling process, allowing fragments of London’s material history to become part of the artworks themselves.

Rather than representing the city, the works explore how a place can be held within colour, material and process, transforming traces of London into new landscapes.

A really special project to be part of and I can’t wait to see all the artists’ interpretations come together tonight.

General Assembly Gallery, 12 George Street, London
9 September – 3 October 2026

With thanks to @general_assembly_london and @polbensapothecary for bringing this wonderful project together.

Our treasure trove WC… A long time in the making, we worked with @natmaks who created the most beautiful bespoke wallpaper for this little space in our Putney home. Each sheet that she makes is completely unique, using the Suminagashi marbling technique to lift intricate patterns formed by dropping ink onto water. We were lucky enough to visit Nat’s Margate studio back in 2024 and see the magic happen in real life, and it really does feel like magic! You can feel the sense of movement that is a product of the process. Swipe to see a process video of these very pieces that now live in our home, as well as some before and after pics from way back when they were installed. As each run of wallpaper is slightly different, Nat will then step back and look at all the pieces, to find connections between the shapes and lines, creating the most natural arrangement between them. It truly is an inspiring process.

A playful expression of fun and creativity, this ground floor room was an opportunity to transport ourselves and our guests into a different world. Colourful, contemporary @vola.denmark fittings speak to the style of our house, paired with antique accents from Kempton and these gorgeous vintage Murano wall lights. The bespoke basin pedestal was painted to match the basin to give a uniform finish. We chose this deep green @littlegreenepaintcompany Puck in high gloss for the ceiling, the reflective qualities adding to the jewel like nature of this space.

Being able to trace back elements of your home and even be a close personal part of their making, adds a hugely special layer to the design for us (and our clients). We know the story that it tells, and that becomes a part of how we inhabit the space.

A huge thank you to Nat for letting us be so involved in the making process ⭐️
