Can you see the delight on my face?! Nat @natmaks and I are still marvelling at the unbelievable alchemy on the surface of the water that created this absolute beauty. A High Tide table here, awaiting its final oil before being sent to a customer. I’m not supposed to have favourites but… (important edit: my most excellent t-shirt is from restaurant/deli/bar of dreams, @bottegacaruso. Get yours from Cantina 🍅)

Thank you to everyone that joined @natmaks workshop on Sumingashi-inspired Marbling at the gallery on Saturday.

During the workshop participants formulated inks using @polbensapothecary Layers of London pigments, and were then introduced to marbling, each making their own piece to take home.

Natascha Maksimovic is an artist exploring material, process and experimentation through a contemporary Suminagashi-inspired approach. Working predominantly on paper, she creates site-responsive landscapes shaped by both control and surrender, exploring memory, transformation and the material presence of place.

Her current body of work, Remanence, extends traditional marbling through a contemporary lens; capturing traces that emerge through movement, chance and material interaction.

If you missed @natmaks workshop, @polbensapothecary is hosting a pigment making workshop on 2 October and tickets are available through our website.

To begin our Autumn programme, General Assembly, together with @polbenspigment, is thrilled to announce the opening of Layers of London, a collaborative exhibition exploring London through colour and material experimentation. Layers of London is on view from 9 September until 3 October.

Layers of London considers the city through its material traces, layers of geography and human history embedded in the city. Rather than treating london as a subject to be represented the exhibition shows what happens when pieces the city itself become part of the work. Through colour material and alchemy, London is transformed.

Each artist participating in the show was gifted a handmade Layers of London pigment palette set. Each pigment was produced by @polbensapothecary from materials collected in, or historically associated with, London, including mineral, bone, lake pigments, as well as synthesised copper.

Please join us for a private view on Tuesday, 8 September, from 6-8pm. Email hello@generalassemblylondon.com to RSVP.

We look forward to seeing you.
