CBS News New York’s Elle McLogan (@ellemclogan) recently visited Materials for the Arts to speak with MFTA members as they shopped from the abundant materials available at our 35,000-square-foot warehouse in Long Island City.

From visiting with MFTA Artists-in-Residence Natsuki Takauji (@natsukiuji) and Magda Love (@magdaloveart) as they installed or and created new works to chatting with members like the Irish Arts Center (@irishartscenter), McLogan got to experience just a little of the magic that makes this city program so special. 💛

If you’d like to learn if you’re eligible to shop from our sunny yellow warehouse aisles, visit nyc.gov/mfta. 🛒 taken in Materials for the Arts by @natsukiuji

Charles Hinman was such an inspirational artist and wonderful person, very fortunately, I got to know at The Art Students League of NY @aslnyc

Thank you for your art, teaching and friendship, I needed to look for those pictures (from 2010!!) when he invited us to his amazing studio/apt in SoHo and cooked for us. I truly fell in love with his work when I saw them in person.

Rest in Peace Hinman 💜🤍💙🖤

His works is currently on view at @westwoodgallerynyc

Heart of the Tree -Bound/Unbound- 2026

The personification or deification of nature exists fundamentally in Japanese mythology, Buddhism, and Shintoism. “Heart of the Tree -Bound/Unbound-“ is a reimagined version of the original work featuring colorful glass IV fruits, which was exhibited at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (2023) and the Kinosaito Arts Center, NY (2024).

Please join the opening reception on Saturday, 6/27 5-10pm, + Weird Music Night @weirdmusicnight
It is open daily for @upstateartweekend and
Sat. 12 – 10 pm, Sun. 12 – 6 pm

Many thanks to the curator @kmahboubianfineart and @brigitta.varadi @peterfulopstudio

Featuring the artists:

Adios from Everywhere, Bianca Boragi, Graciela Cassel, Aaron Cobbett, Magdalena Dukiewicz, Peter Emerich, Peter Fulop, Ana Garcés Kiley, Sandra Lapage, Haksul Lee, Jamie Martinez, Lydia Nobles, Stephon Senegal, Elissavet Sfyri, Skull Tower 4 E, Natsuki Takauji, Brigitta Varadi, Yiyi Wei.

Nature Goes With Everything, presented by KAPOW and curated by Kourosh Mahboubian, is an outdoor exhibition of sculpture, painting, multimedia art, film, music, and performance set out in the fields and forest trails surrounding the ChaNorth artist residency. As the name implies, the works are presented not thematically, but in a natural context where everything works together. The works, which share a common aesthetic sensibility, represent a group of local and international New York-based artists who have come together as a community with strong connections to KAPOW and its founder Kourosh Mahboubian.

The exhibition of artworks will be accompanied by art performances, a weird music concert, film screenings, artist talks, and a panel discussion on the emerging art scene.

JUROR - NATSUKI TAKAUJI

EXHIBITION DATES - JUNE 27- AUGUST 2, 2026

RECEPTION AND AWARDS CEREMONY - SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 4-6 PM

Summer brings its own rhythm and flow each year. It inspires its own genre and repertoire. We encourage artists to consider the concepts of rhythm, shape, texture, and color as they relate to the experience of summer. Shaping a summer, summer textures, the colors of summer, changes in pace, are all thoughts to consider. We are excited to open these concepts and ideas as inspiration for the artists own personal experience. All mediums are encouraged and acceptable for this exhibit. Abstract and representational artworks in 2D and 3D formats, including select installations will enrich the exhibition. Please consider entering your own creative interpretations.
