A special moment on our Mt. Rainier hike. 🐻🌲

We spotted this black bear looking for breakfast and eating leaves along the trail. We kept our distance and quietly watched him.

I also learned something interesting from the park’s bear-safety sign: If a black bear attacks, fight back — do NOT play dead. I always thought you were supposed to pretend to be dead!

One of our sweetest visitors comes not through the door, but to the window—always bring us smile. Without asking permission, this cheerful guest appears whenever it wishes, delighting us all. Give it something to eat, and it happily nibbles away.
On a lovely spring day, the sight of this squirrel at our window brings joy not only to us, but to every guest who visits our home.
And yet, to learn that these little creatures live only three to ten years feels unbearably short.
Perhaps that is why their small visits touch us so deeply. Each appearance at our window, each tiny nibble, each fleeting moment of eye contact feels like a gift.

This is late post about mallard duck in our patio. As soon as we came back home on June 10th from our 19 days trip, I went to patio straight to check Ducksooni first. We installed the camera, but while traveling, we forgot to check for a few days, and one day she was gone. We saw some eggshells but four of them were left behind. We wonder how the mama brought babies to the lake.

No more night outings. She used to leave at night and come back early morning. That means Ducksoonie must laid 12 or 13 eggs and began incubation.

Ducksoonie Mama’s Love is the Best. She began pulling out her own down feathers to line her nest, providing insulation. Wow, ducklings will be born under a dawn blanket made out of mama’s love.

Life with her on the second day. We named her “Ducksoonie.” 덕순이. When we came home from work, she sat like when we left in the morning. After dinner, when I looked through the window, she suddenly flew down to the lake and didn’t return until the next morning.
While she was gone, we were not sure if mama duck abandoned eggs or if our taking photos through the window bothered her. So we went out to the balcony to check. There were eight eggs. Miles touched one egg, but it was cold. That means incubating wasn’t begun. Mallard duck lays one egg daily, up to 12-13 eggs. That means Ducksoonie still lays eggs. We start our day by checking on her. That’s our new routine.

Something unimaginable things happened. A mallard duck nestled in the clay pot on our balcony to hatch ducklings. We used that pot for lettuce last year and I didn't plant seeds yet. It will take four weeks for hatching eggs. Why did she choose the balcony on the third floor? How can she bring her ducklings to the lake? Is she going to teach her ducklings to fly before swimming? Where is papa duck? Does he bring food for her?
