The Long Beach Peninsula has been getting hit hard by hurricane Rachel. 🌊 The city has been using these large dump trucks 🚚to build a temporary sand wall to stop the large waves from completely tearing the whole Peninsula apart. Its a fight that will not be won quickly but im sure the city will fix the problem.

Waves from Tropical Storm #Rachel smashing into allready damaged homes as super El Niño continues to ravage the California coastline and continues to damage more homes.

The worst damage is around 64th and 65th Place. Nothing is protecting homes from the ocean, and every time high tide rolls in, the water removes more sand from underneath them.

Very nice little park with Kolekole stream emptying into the ocean.🌊 Great spot for a picnic. Beach is rocky with lots of driftwood. Tranquil park underneath older highway bridge complete with a small waterfall. 🌊The Hawaii Belt Road (state route 19) passes over the park on a high bridge. The park is located near the 14 mile marker.
.
The name Kolekole means "raw or scarred" in the Hawaiian language.
.
Kolekole Gulch Park offers the following activities:
.
🏊‍♂️Swimming in the river(strong currents)
.
🐠Fishing
.
🏄‍♂️Boogie boarding and surfing in the coastal waves for more advanced visitors.
.
🥙Picnicking
.
🏕Camping and campsites
.
⛰️Mountain climbing and hiking are also listed as available
.
🐕 Dogs are not🚫 allowed at county beach parks.
.
⚠️Be advised this park was closed for years for lead contamination but was recently opened in 2024 after a 6.3 million dollar renovation.

Secluded beach 🏖on the Kona side of the Big Island in Hawai'i. Accessed by a rocky dirt road a AWD 🛻is highly recommend.
.
The shoreline features a mix of coarse, salt-and-pepper sand, large chunks of coral,🪸 and black lava rocks🌋
.
Water Conditions: 🌊Due to a shallow reef shelf stretching along the shoreline, it is not ideal for swimming or snorkeling. However, the lava rocks about 200 yards to the right contain excellent tide pools.
.
Wildlife: 🦭The beach is a frequent resting ground for endangered Hawaiian monk seals. It sits within the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, making it a great spot for seasonal whale watching. Behind the beach, you will also find unique freshwater/saltwater mix environments called anchialine ponds.

Amenities & Access

Facilities: 🏕The beach area is equipped with restrooms, picnic tables, BBQ grills, and plenty of shade from surrounding trees.
.
How to Get There: 🗺It is located off Highway 19 between mile markers 90 and 91. Look for the large green sign for Kekaha Kai State Park.
.
The Road: 🚗The drive from the highway to the parking lot is a rough, unpaved road roughly two miles long. A 4WD vehicle is highly recommended to navigate the bumpy terrain safely.

The ‘Akaka Falls State Park 🏞trail is an easy-to-follow, 0.4-mile paved loop featuring rainforests, cascading Kahuna Falls, and the towering 442-foot ‘Akaka Falls. Located on the Hilo side of the Big Island Hawai'i. 🌸

Hours:🕛 Daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Fees: 💰 (Credit Card Only): Non-resident entrance is $5.00 per person.

Parking: 🚗 non-resident parking is $10.00 per car.

Pololu Trail / Overlook🌸 is at the end of Akoni Pule Hwy on the northern part of the Big Island, Hawaii. 🌈This is a relatively easy trail to accomplish 20 minutes down and about 35 minutes up. 1.2 miles out and back. If you want to just look👀 at the valley and the views you can park at the end of the road for 15 minutes. But if you want to hike the trail you must park outside the parking lot on the side of the road and check in ✅️with the rangers on site. I did not hike the trail but I did check out the views. Worth the 1 hour and 15 minute drive from the Kona Airport.
