If you've ever been to @DiscoverLA, you likely spotted the #SantaMonicaMountains in the distance. And if you squint hard enough, you may even see a few people walking the #BackboneTrail, a whopping 67-mile trek. Of course, no-one expects you to do the hike all in one go (unless you're super-duper passionate, and prepared!) and locals tend to break it up into chunks. As well as views into Downtown #LosAngeles, hikers can also take in @ChannelIslandsNPS and the #SanGabrielMountains. ⁣

Here are some other interesting facts about this local-favorite trek: ⁣
🥾 All in all, there are 12 official trailheads along the 67 miles. Mountain bikers can access 43 of those miles. ⁣
🥾 #SandstonePeak Circle X Ranch is the highest point, reaching 3,111 feet. ⁣
🥾Rover is more than welcome to join you, so long as he's kept on a leash. There's a good boy. ⁣

Watching the sunrise on the highest mountain in Southern California. San Gorgonio Mountain(11,503ft) also known as “Old Grayback”.🏔 This mountain is used as a rite of passage for serious hikers that are training for Mt. Whitney (highest mountain in the United States)📍 At this point my breath was taken away and had goosebumps from head to toe. Not because it was windy and cold but because how lucky I felt to have experienced this moment.🕕

We had been hiking for 3 hours in total darkness under the stars.✨ The wind was blowing strong and our hands were freezing.❄ With this last peak on our way and with dawn upon us we had no choice but to run to the summit. No way we were going to miss the sunrise!🌄
