What scary plant should I do next? Hemlock water dropwort (Oenanthe crocata) is one of the most poisonous plants in Europe and the most poisonous in the UK! It is commonly found in damp environments such as riverbanks, ditches, and wetlands. It belongs to the carrot family (Apiaceae) and is often mistaken for edible plants like celery or parsley due to its similar appearance. The plant has hollow stems, clusters of small white flowers arranged in umbrella-shaped groups (umbels), and thick, fleshy roots. Its roots are especially toxic and contain a potent neurotoxin called oenanthotoxin. Poisoning occurs when any part of the plant is ingested, with symptoms appearing rapidly. These can include nausea, vomiting, seizures, and potentially fatal respiratory failure. Even small amounts can be deadly to humans and livestock. Because of its high toxicity and resemblance to edible plants, hemlock water dropwort is considered extremely dangerous, and foraging near water sources requires careful plant identification to avoid accidental poisoning. Hope you enjoyed! Catch you on the next one 🌱 #nature #plants #toxicplant #danger #ecology taken in Snowdonia National Park by @naturemantom

AD| Why should you care about responsible forest management? Because a forest is more than its trees. Responsible forest management is about keeping forests thriving for the long term, for wildlife, soils, water, local communities, and future generations. That's what FSC certification supports around the world, including right here in the UK. This FSC Forest Week, we're celebrating the people and forests proving that "Forests For All Forever" is more than just a slogan. Want to support responsible forest management? Look for the FSC logo. #FSCForestWeek #trees #nature #forests #forestry by @naturemantom

If visiting a temp rainforest please be respectful, watch where you walk and leave no trace! Only enter if you are allowed to do so! This is a repost from last year as I haven't been able to get back down to Dartmoor this year! I'd love to make some more videos about temperate rainforests, they really are amazing places. Please note this is not Wistman's woods, you are allowed to enter this one. I do think that like Wistmans woods this woodland should also be fenced off, not to stop respectful people entering but to stop sheep and deer! Both these species eat new saplings and prevent the rainforest from regenerating. While I was there there were literally sheep grazing inside the woodland! This is exactly why temperate rainforests are so rare and fragmented. Much more needs to be done to conserve and restore them. I hope you enjoyed I'll be back with more original stuff later this week #temperaterainforest #trees #nature #conservation #plants by @naturemantom
