Introducing: “Earth Before Elsewhere”, a collaborative art print drop with @centerforbiodiv

A few months ago I reached out to the Center for Biological Diversity to see if there was potential to help support their work protecting the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge in South Texas. The refuge is part of one of the most ecologically important landscapes in the region, providing habitat and wildlife corridors for species including the endangered ocelot, northern aplomado falcon, Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, eastern black rail, and piping plover. It also protects rare native plants found nowhere else, or in very few places, in the United States.

Today, this habitat is facing increasing pressure from industrial expansion associated with SpaceX’s Boca Chica operations. The Center for Biological Diversity is challenging a federal land exchange that would transfer protected refuge land to SpaceX for further expansion of its operations, arguing that the exchange would permanently reduce and fragment critical wildlife habitat.

This fight matters because these aren’t simply empty stretches of land. They are nesting grounds, wetlands, beaches, wildlife corridors, and shelter for species already facing enormous pressures. Protecting these places means protecting the interconnected ecosystems that allow them to survive. All proceeds from every print sold will directly support the Center for Biological Diversity and its efforts to defend endangered species, public lands, and wild places.

I created this piece to celebrate what is actually there; the animals, plants, waterways, and habitats that make this landscape worth protecting, and to help support the people fighting to keep it wild.

It’s been a quiet dream of mine to see my illustrations woven into the landscape of a place as meaningful as the Cumberland Nature Trail in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. In partnership with SVGEF, I had the privilege of creating interpretive signage and wildlife illustrations that speak to the rich, endemic life of this island.

Since childhood, nature has offered me a kind of refuge, a stillness I’ve returned to in moments of both wonder and difficulty. To contribute to a project that not only celebrates this natural heritage but also invites others into deeper awareness and reverence feels profoundly grounding.

My deepest thanks to Louise Mitchell, whose vision and trust guided this work from the start. To Stephan Hornsey, thank you for being both a generous collaborator and friend. And to Cornelius Richards, for always meeting each interaction with warmth and care.

This project carries weight. It educates, it preserves, and it reminds us of nature’s quiet brilliance, its ability to teach us, hold us, and continue on in its fullness. I’m honoured to have played a part.

And with deep appreciation, I extend thanks to the Forestry Services and National Parks for their generous collaboration and steadfast support. This project would not have been possible without their care, insight, and dedication to protecting the natural world we are so lucky to call home.

Would I prefer unlimited PTO, set work hours, a constant influx of clients, predictable income, and to actually take a vacation for once?

Yes.

Would I trade being able to decide what I make, who I work with, when I work, and occasionally experiencing the most unhinged dopamine rush known to man when a client says “we LOVE it”?

Absolutely not.

Unfortunately, I have chosen ✨the entrepreneurial lifestyle✨, so instead I’ll be over here oscillating between “I am a creative genius” and “I should probably become a park ranger” on a weekly basis.

Anyway, please check on your graphic designer friends. 🤘🏽 taken in San Diego, California by @natureofthings.co

Earth Before Elsewhere.

I’m tired of watching wild places get treated like they’re just empty pieces of land. This art drop in collaboration with the @centerforbiodiv is helping to support their fight to protect wildlife habitat in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.

The artwork highlights some of the incredible species that call this landscape home: ocelots; northern aplomado falcons, eastern black rails, piping plovers and kemp’s ridley sea turtles. These aren’t interchangeable patches of land. These are places where animals nest, forage, raise their young, migrate, hide, hunt, and survive.

And frankly? We don’t need more trillionaires. We don’t care to live on Mars. We need more wild places. We care more about what’s happening around us.

100% of the proceeds of this art drop goes towards supporting the Center For Biological Diversity and their work to protect endangered species and wildlife habitat.

🩵 prints are available now. Link in bio to snag one and help support the fight.

In early 2025, I woke up to a form submission from Germany. A rarity in my books. I’ve worked with folks from all around, and to have met the dog lover behind @mottisdogwear was one of those moments where you’re in the in-between of two realities; the moment you start talking about the type of work that lights you up, and the moment you get to bring that work to life. I’d been itching to work more in projects surrounding dogs and dog gear.

The Adventure Collection just launched this weekend; the first illustrative design of 3 we poured a lot of love into through collaboration and shared love for dogs. So grateful to Leonie for trusting me with this work.

Go take a gander at @mottisdogwear.🦮🐾

Happy International Wolf Day 🐺

Oof, can’t tell you how enthralled I am with these beautiful animals. Wolves are more than symbols of the wild. They are part of what keeps it alive.

As apex predators, wolves help shape the ecosystems they inhabit; influencing prey populations and behavior, supporting biodiversity, and helping maintain the delicate balance between species. Their presence reaches far beyond the pack itself, touching the health of an entire landscape.

When we protect wolves, we are protecting something much larger than a single species. We are protecting the intricate, interconnected systems that make a healthy planet possible.

Wolves have been feared, misunderstood, and pushed from much of the land they once called home. Their return is a reminder that wild places can recover when we make room for them.

Today, I’m celebrating these extraordinary animals; and the people working to ensure they remain part of our wild future.

A few organizations I’ve kept up with here in California doing meaningful work for wolves:

🐺 @womenforwolves // wolf conservation, coexistence, education, advocacy, research, and sanctuary.

🐺 @apexprotectionproject // protecting wolves and wolfdogs through rescue, education, and advocacy.

The wild is not something separate from us. It is a living system, and wolves are one of its threads.

This was an emotional post for me to make.

Growing up, Steve Irwin was one of the people who made me believe that loving wildlife could be a life, not just an interest. I watched him get wildly excited about crocodiles, snakes, spiders, and every strange little creature he came across, and somehow he made the whole world feel a little more curious. He showed me that you could be passionate without growing apathetic while observing the heartbreaking parts of conservation, that conservation could be joyful, and that caring deeply about the natural world was something worth building your life around.

His love for wildlife shaped the way I see the natural world, and in more ways than I probably realized at the time, it shaped the work I do today. I wanted a life that kept me close to nature. I wanted to tell stories that made people care. I wanted to use creativity as a way of celebrating and protecting the wild.

Steve was a huge part of showing me that was possible.

Twenty years later, I still carry a little bit of that kid who wanted to be out in the wild, learning about animals and telling everyone how incredible they are. And I think that’s a pretty beautiful legacy to leave behind.

Thank you Steve. Happy National Wildlife Day. 🐊 by @natureofthings.co

Brand iconography will forever be my bread and butter.

Done well, icons become their own visual language. They communicate your story, values, your ethos. They’re the smaller, finer details that quietly build intentionality to connect deeper to your audience.

Had the opportunity to collaborate with my good friend Megan on the iconography for The Haven Mental Health Counseling, & I’m stoked on how this all turned out. Knowing this part of the branding left an impactful impression on the project has meant everything to me.

I have always felt the weight of regret.

Not doing the things my heart has felt it’s calling to do. Not spending every waking moment in full attention to everything around me. Sometimes I’ve let fear get the best of me.

But now looking back, I’ve had some pretty life altering moments that have changed me profoundly. Moments that have now become the blueprint for how I see the world. taken in San Diego, California by @natureofthings.co
