What’s she munching on today? 🤪 NASTURTIUM — A little FLOWER WITH A LOT OF oomph 🌼

As a herbalist, I’m fascinated by the medicinal properties of the plants growing right in my gardens.

Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) is more than an edible flower. It contains sulphur-containing compounds called glucosinolates, which give it that distinctive peppery taste 🌿🌼🌿 These compounds have demonstrated antimicrobial activity and are of interest for their antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties.

🌿 Traditional herbal medicine has used nasturtium to support urinary health, including UTIs, and other infections. A wonderful reminder that plants offer us so much more than their beauty.

Have you used nasturtium medicinally, or do you simply enjoy eating its flowers? Tell me in the comments 🤩 by @naturesconnection

🌿 WHAT’S SHE EATING NOW? 👀😂

Meet Heartsease : Viola tricolor, aka Wild Pansy 🌸

And YES … you can eat it! 🌿

The flowers and young leaves are edible and can be added to salads, desserts and drinks … or, apparently, eaten straight from the garden while lying amongst the plants 🌼😂🌱

This is one of the things I love about being a herbalist … Getting to know plants by actually working with them ✨💚🙌🏼

Would you eat a leaf straight from the garden? Uses in comments 👇🏼🌿

💸 Money can’t buy happiness … but it can buy herbs to help you feel a little more like yourself 😂🌿💚

And honestly, I’ll take a beautiful herbal formula over another random purchase any day.

Herbal medicine = my kind of retail therapy. 🌿🫶🏼

ThankYOU @herbalextractsco for having the best herbs and for my cover photo 🌸✨🌸

What’s your favourite herbal ally? 👇🏼

🚨 FEELING STRESSED? LET’S TALK CORTISOL.

I think it’s fair to say most of us experience more stress than we’d like at times.

I know I do 🙋‍♀️

Cortisol is an important hormone … but when our stress response is constantly switched on, our bodies can feel the effects.

🌿 3 of my favourite herbal allies for supporting the stress response:

✨ Siberian Ginseng
✨ Ashwagandha
✨ Rehmannia

And herbs are only part of the picture … 5 simple ways to support your nervous system + reduce stress:

🌿 MOVE your body
🌬️ BREATHE slowly + deeply
🌳 GET OUTSIDE + connect with nature
😴 PRIORITISE sleep + rest
🤍 MAKE TIME for connection, joy + things that fill your cup

Sometimes your body is asking for less doing … and more regulation 🙌🏼

POV: WORKING WITH PLANTS HAS ALWAYS FELT RIGHT TO ME 🌼🌿🌸

Somehow, becoming a herbalist felt more aligned than anything else ever had. ✨💛 🙌🏼

There’s something about growing, harvesting and preparing a plant medicine with your own hands that feels … ya know ‘different.

For me, it feels ancient 🌱
Traditional.
Almost like something I already knew somewhere deep within me ✨🌼✨

This was my first time growing, harvesting and preparing my own Ashwagandha root — a beautiful new experience with an old herbal ally, Withania somnifera. 🌿

It’s within the process that we learn…

And this is why I love herbal medicine. 💚

Ashwagandha is a traditional adaptogenic herb used in herbal medicine to support the body during times of stress — and definitely one of my favourites. 🫶🏼

Have you worked with or used Ashwagandha?
I’d love to hear your experience 🤍🌿👇🏼

🚨 MICROPLASTICS 😬

Preventative health starts with education + awareness.

Once you know what you’re being exposed to, you can start making informed choices about what you can realistically reduce 🫶🏼

Small changes.
Less exposure.
More awareness. 🙌🏼

Knowledge is preventative healthcare ✨🤩✨

Sometimes you just need to SHAKE IT OFF ✨🙌🏼😂

I’m noticing this more & more in this phase of my LiFe 😬

Movement, shaking, brushing down the body, stretching, breathing … simple ways to reconnect with your body & help shift out of that stuck, activated, stressed or anxious feeling ✨🤩✨

No fancy equipment.
No complicated protocol.

Just MOVE your body 😍

Your body is always communicating.
Sometimes we just need to listen. 🤍

WHAT IF YOUR MEDICINE CABINET GREW IN your GARDEN? 🌿

Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine and it’s still very much part of my world today. When people say what I do is alternative, I remind them that no it’s not, its #TRADITIONALMEDICINE 🌸🌿🌸

I love getting to know each plant … as it grows, the taste, smell, and even down to the energy of each plant ally 🙌🏼

Because herbal medicine isn’t one herb fits all ✨

It’s about working with the whole person and choosing the right plant allies for their individual needs 🌿

This is why I’m still a crazy plant lady after all these years 🤪🌱
