The legendary mascots of Diamond & Pearl —Time and Space.

Every kid remembers walking into GameStop, Best Buy, or Blockbuster (RIP) and having to make the impossible choice: Diamond or Pearl. (For me, it was always Pearl)

The LV.X era gets a lot of love, but I don’t think enough people appreciate the actual mascots of the generation. Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina defined Sinnoh. Whether you picked Diamond or Pearl, you had your favorite, and these cards bring all that nostalgia rushing back.

The artwork is what really does it for me. Dialga’s deep blues mixed with that cold steel silver perfectly capture the feeling of Time, while Palkia’s vibrant blues and purples make the card explode in hand, both illustrated by the famous Arita, these are Gold Star equivalents of these Mons.

Sitting beside them felt like the perfect finishing touch—a mother-of-pearl Datejust Rolex (NFS). A subtle nod to Palkia’s Pearl, while the watch and Rolex’s 72hr movement represents Dialga’s dominion over Time.

It’s hard to explain how special a pair like this feels until you finally have them side by side. Definitely one of the highlights of my collection. by @nawfinity.tcg

Master Cyrus’ favorite travel companion. 🐦‍🔥

From KBBQ to the pool, Charizard LV.X is a villain’s best travel companion.

With a PSA population of just 118, it’s the second-lowest population Charizard grail, trailing only Gold Star Charizard by roughly 20copies, while sitting at less than half the population of Crystal Charizard (250) and 1st Edition Shining Charizard (269).

But numbers aren’t just what make this card special. It’s the art. The deep purple and blue galaxy backdrop makes Charizard explode off the card, while the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows of my boys’ flames burning the edges of the card showcase everything that made the LV.X era’s artwork so iconic.

Pop 8 Gardy in the Swiss Alps 🏔️

The moment I laid eyes on this Pop 8 beauty, I knew I had to find the source of the artwork. A trip to the Swiss Alps later, I think I found the perfect scene.

Here we have undoubtedly one of the best Gardevoir artworks, especially when you look at the pop report and swirl. The peaceful lake and mountains speak volumes to Gardy’s empathy and whimsical nature, making it the perfect Gardevoir holo. Encapsulated in her natural habitat.

Combine that with the perfect swirl placement by her head, and you have a one-of-a-kind DPPT masterpiece. (Oh yeah.. shawty got the 67 cert too)

We’re no longer collecting cardboard in 2027. This is art. 🤌🏼

Imagine getting to the final stage and having to play a Pokémon Card Research Institute employee for the card. 😭

This 2006 Battle Road Stadium promo was available at only four limit events in Japan from November 25th - December 17th.

And you couldn’t just show up and get one. No Pokemon wouldn’t make it that easy...

~First, you had to win 2 battles to advance to the second stage.
~For the second stage, you then had to go and win 3 consecutive matches. (1 loss and you’re out)
....
~Then, in the final stage, you had to beat a PCL researcher from the Pokémon Card Research Institute. (Literally someone who develops the TCG game, a straight up mod...)

Win all that, and you get that mouthwatering holo with the Diamond & Pearl mascots of the era.

So the people who ended up with one literally had to run a 5-win gauntlet, including a 3-game streak, before beating PCL in the final.

The fact that this was even a distribution method is insane to me.

Fakuda’s Tyranitar is truly a beauty. Easily one of my top three ttar’s, behind the HGSS and Prime—but a masterpiece nevertheless.

From a national Winter tournament nearly two decades ago to this dude’s summer display… ❄️☀️

The irony of posting a Winter Challenge during a heatwave isn’t lost on me, but it had to be done. Someone had to cool off your timeline. 🥶

The 2007 Mysterious Pearl was awarded during Japan’s Winter Challenge, with roughly 300 copies believed to have ever been distributed. To date, only 158 have EVER been graded, with just 51 PSA 10s.

It’s easy to see why this one’s become a favorite of mine. The medal artwork, Palkia watching over it in the background, the shimmering silver holo e-reader border, and the way the purple and blue around Palkia POP in the light… it just has a presence that photos can never fully capture.

That’s what makes these tournament prize cards so special to me. Vintage, modern, low-pop PSA 10s… I appreciate all of it. But prize cards are one of the few things in this hobby that are truly finite.

They had to be earned. Once they were awarded… that was it.

Papa Rayquaza from a set named after him no less…. He’s breathtaking 😢

Sure EX Emerald released a few silver borders ahead during its time, one holo chase card that went under the radar for some time was RayRay himself, the literal chase holo of the set. With a population of only 61 PSA 10 out of over a thousand graded, the gem rating really makes a difference. oh and did I mention the peepee swirl? (No tax i promise)

Zorua’s Dark typing is fully embraced in this artwork, with almost every Dark-type companion packed into the scene. From Umbreon, Sneasel, Sableye, and Murkrow… to my favorite, Absol.

With only around 200 copies reportedly awarded to the contest winners, this Pucchigumi Contest Winner Zorua is one of the most elusive mid-era Pokémon promos from one of the hobby’s most mysterious magazines.

These aren’t your average Magmortar cards… these are MOGmortars. 😤

With a population of just 12 for the Holo and 8 for the Reverse Holo, Magmortar is one of the lowest-graded holo lines in the entire Call of Legends set.

Gotta feel for the set collectors…these are gonna be tough to track down. 🥲

The Guardian of Peace 🕊️

One of the rarest and most stunning PSA 10 Togekiss holos out there.

I’ve always loved how peaceful this artwork feels…just Togekiss floating through the clouds surrounded by some of the most stunning hues of green, blue and teal this young lad has ever seen.

The double half swirl by the head and extra swirl in the holo bleed (by the damage output) were enough to convince me this was THE copy to own. Out of all 9 copies in existence, I genuinely think this might be the best one. (I’m biased what can I say)

Awakened within the flames of Ecruteak’s tragedy lies the Burned Tower Prize Card 🏯

Awarded exclusively to ONLY the top 3 finishers during the 2010 Reviving Legends commemoration release events, this prize card stands among one of the the rarest and most elusive cards from the entire HGSS-COL era. Featuring all 3 legendary beasts together .

The artwork itself feels almost haunting… the warm glow of the fire engulfing the tower contrasts beautifully against the dark atmosphere surrounding the beasts. Easily one of the most historically significant Japanese promos ever made during the era.

With so few copies surfacing publicly… and even fewer reaching high grades — this card has become the definition of a Johto grail.

The (Pop. 22) Bai Ze / Hakutaku 白澤 of Pokémon… 🌙

Often misunderstood, Absol is believed to bring disaster and misfortune — when in reality, the dark beast appears only when catastrophe is imminent, using its crescent horn to warn those around it. Yet because of this, Absol itself became associated with disaster… and was cast away from society ❤️‍🩹🥀 #herocomplex (he jus like me 🫩)

The Lv. X Absol from Supreme Victors captures that misunderstood presence perfectly. Bursts of blue and purple alongside the stunning cosmic holo pattern and bluish black backdrop make this one of the most stunning color pallets in the entire Lv. X era — and in my opinion, the absolute BEST Absol card.
