I came to ELEVATE expecting a workout. Then I met @sumonahmed774 one of their personal trainers. We went through CrossFit, strength training, powerlifting-style exercises and back workouts until I was completely exhausted. I hit failure at every set… and this man kept saying “5 more.” 😂 These trainers are basically Bengali G.I. Joes.

At 16, he built a garage from scratch.

He grew up poor, his dad worked in a factory, and when something needed fixing, you did it yourself.

His dad would come home around 11, eat, then take a car apart in that garage.

Around 2 AM, he'd get tired and stop, and his son had to figure out what his dad did before he could sleep, because otherwise, they couldn't get to work.

Bangladesh has a generation of young people with the stubbornness, ambition and dedication to build something meaningful. The question is whether we give them enough reason and opportunity to do it here.

As a Bangladeshi who grew up outside the country, I see the value of both perspectives. Bangladesh has incredible young people who are willing to work, take risks and chase their goals. We shouldn’t only showcase the Bangladeshis who leave and become successful abroad. We also need to showcase the young people who stay, build businesses, create opportunities and contribute right here at home.

If we want to see Bangladesh develop, we have to believe in the people who are going to build its future. Bangladesh’s youth don’t just need to be showcased. They need to be given the opportunity to become the people we showcase.

বাংলাদেশের তরুণদের মধ্যে স্বপ্ন আছে, সাহস আছে, আর নিজের লক্ষ্যে পৌঁছানোর জন্য লেগে থাকার মানসিকতাও আছে। আমাদের কাজ শুধু তাদের নিয়ে কথা বলা নয়, তাদের প্রতিভা ও সম্ভাবনাকে সবার সামনে তুলে ধরা।

In bangladesh, simply having access to an education can depend on whether someone is willing to invest in their future.

My father-in-law has been building and supporting Hatim Chowdhury Islamia Hafizia Alim Madrasah since 1998, creating an opportunity for children from financially struggling families to receive an education. Today, 650 students attend the madrasah, learning both academic and religious subjects, with support available for students who need financial assistance.

What made this visit even more meaningful was learning that some of the teachers today were once students themselves. They were given an opportunity, grew through it, and eventually came back to help educate the next generation.

That’s what education can do. It doesn’t just change a child’s future. It can create a cycle where one opportunity leads to another, and one generation helps build the next.

অনেক পরিবারের কাছে স্কুলে ফেরার মানে নতুন পোশাক, ব্যাকপ্যাক আর স্কুলের প্রয়োজনীয় জিনিসপত্র। কিন্তু সিলেটের কিছু শিশুর জন্য শিক্ষার সুযোগ পাওয়াটাই নির্ভর করে, কেউ তাদের ভবিষ্যতে বিনিয়োগ করতে এগিয়ে আসছে কি না তার ওপর।

আমার শ্বশুর ১৯৯৮ সাল থেকে হাটিম চৌধুরী ইসলামিয়া হাফিজিয়া আলিম মাদ্রাসাটি গড়ে তুলতে ও পরিচালনায় সহায়তা করে আসছেন, যাতে আর্থিকভাবে অসচ্ছল পরিবারের শিশুরাও শিক্ষার সুযোগ পায়। বর্তমানে এখানে ৬৫০ জন শিক্ষার্থী পড়াশোনা করছে, আর যাদের প্রয়োজন তাদের জন্য রয়েছে আর্থিক সহায়তার ব্যবস্থা।

এই জায়গাটাকে আমার কাছে আরও বিশেষ করে তুলেছে একটি বিষয়। এখানকার কিছু শিক্ষক একসময় এই মাদ্রাসারই ছাত্র ছিলেন। একটি সুযোগ থেকেই তৈরি হয়েছে অন্যদের সুযোগ করে দেওয়ার একটি চক্র।
