[in:flux @hkcronline live 003] The collaboration with NAZ @naz__live is like a perfect representation of a cosmic interplay. We didn’t have a mastery plan to execute. started with whatever was around, mic’d up singing bowl, fan, pen, jinglings going through effect box, then NAZ used her operatic singings responding to it, then we used machines answering her. Just like this, every sound appears as an organic response to the environment, one after another, we have a jazz. One can understand unknown worlds through playfully travelling to them. I propose world-travelling to the dream realm to reveal the potential of world building. Tibetan dream yoga teaches that our understanding of reality is inhibited. Through travelling to unknown worlds, we can not only expand but shapeshift our understanding of reality. As Barad suggests, “The world is an ongoing open process of mattering through which “mattering” itself acquires meaning and form in the realization of different agential possibilities.” (Barad, 2003, p.17). Mindfulness and world-travelling reveal the overlooked relations between human, nature, and matter–relations that are necessary in revealing the potential for transformation and the creation of new realities. Consequently, this exploration of mindful world-travelling to dream consciousness offers a pathway to not only redefine the art-making process through dreams but also expand our understanding of reality, actively shaping and creating new worlds within it. Photos by @josie.gark Mind Simulator (2025) from the independent study I created, Art from the Future Branches on the wall mixed with yarn, a bed cut into half, one hanging from the wall, the other part on the floor with a monitor hidden inside, the two beds are connected by yarn… The hanging bed has my lucid dreaming journal entries projected, the monitor inside the bed has mindfulness lucid dreaming music practices I created, and on the walls, projections of depictions of dreams are present. I pick tarot cards, with a box cutter, cut pieces of my hair and put on them. In Revolt is a multimedia performance art piece that views womanhood and silence in Turkish culture through the lens of an oppressive simulation. The player is forced to navigate strict objectives while maintaining harmony in the community, exposing the mechanics of systemic control. Through crashes and glitches, the player hijacks the game to break free... yet the feedback loop continues for other women. welcome player. ROUND 1: Service & Performance Objectives: serve correctly, protect family image, avoid conflict ROUND 2: Fasulye Turşusu Objectives: ferment, preserve, prepare ROUND 3: Adherence & Devotion Objectives: love your government, abandon autonomy çAy? Bu performans bizi birbirine bağlayan ama aynı zamanda uzaklaştıran değerler, sessizlik, ve isyan üzerineydi. Text based bir “oyun”yarattım, ilk challenge eve misafir Teyzeler’in gelmesiyle başlıyor, Teyze’nin elini öpüyorum +1 puan, diğer Teyze’nin elini öpüyorum -1 puan (Teyze ben ablan yaşındayım dedi),, Teyze piercingini fark etti -1... bu tarz text üzerinden seçeneklerle devam ederek oyun yavaş yavaş kırılmaya başlıyor. Performans çay vermeyle başlıyor, ve bozulmuş bir oyun, ekranda “Çay?” yazısını gösterirken bitiyor, ben sistemden çıkıyorum ama o bastırıcı döngü devam ediyor… Bu projenin dogumu fasulye ile başladı. Fasulye konsepti üzerine düşünmeye başladım, anneannemin mutfağında komşularla birlikte buluşmayı.. bir taraftan hem kadınların bir araya geldiği, komünite kurdukları, birbiriyle var oldukları, ne zaman birinin ihtiyacı olursa komşuların yardımlaşma için toplanması… Hep birlikte collectif bir emek veriliyor, hem buluşma dayanışma, ama yine sınırların içerisinde… Kişinin öznelliğinin hep başka bir özneye çalışıyor olması…. Kadın hem öteki hem kendi, hem özne hem obje, durmadan kendini adapte ediyor.. durmadan bir oyunun içinde hayatta kalmaya çalışıyoruz, ben de bunu başkaldırı ile incelemek istedim. Evet bir oyun, bir simülasyonun bir parçasıyız, ama bu oyunun içerisinden oyunu nasıl çökertiriz? Dream Walker is a part of Re-Configuration, a 3 part XR installation that approaches reality as a system dependent on configuration and relation. Through re-configuring the way we form relation, we reveal the world, the possibilities that expand our reality. Re-configuration investigates the potential of transformation through things that already exist in our world: what becomes possible when we change the way we form relation? Dream Walker explores the potential of (lucid) dreaming: What if dreams were a bigger part of our “awake” state, what can dreams reveal to us that the material world can’t? What happens when dreaming becomes more than just something that happens when we fall asleep? What happens when we form stronger connections, make it part of our practice, approach it as information? Study our dream patterns, the symbolism, the intra-action between different states of “being”? What happens when we start interacting intentionally with this world? When we start to become lucid in these states? When we start to explore, ask questions, create, contemplate while we are in these worlds? Dream Walker includes an AI agent that I’ve trained on Tibetan Dream Yoga and lucid dreaming practices. Huge thanks to Artifice for giving me a space for me to showcase my new form of immersive performance. For the first time, I created an XR app on Unity, connected a PS4 controller, and let the audience roam in the worlds I build while I play them live techno. Both the XR space and the music is built through foraging and field recordings: scanning objects, recording sounds, and manipulating them to reveal different configurations of their being. The audience made it so special as they were so creative and playful in the ways in which they interacted, which encouraged me to explore this form even more. Home: a place of family, love, culture, warmth, community, and alienation. A familiar sense of isolation within the comfort of hospitality. Where you love the food and the people, where you keep clicking your raki glasses to celebrate each other, where you can “dertlesmek” for hours, offer each other cigarettes, and try to be the first person to light it up. A culture that welcomes you, takes care of you, but also a culture of constraint, a culture of always living with a mirror, the gaze of the neighbor. A culture you feel like you should escape yet one that you always return to.
