“It’s difficult to love the world.
Even more so to love yourself in it.
Worry says ordinary.
Comparison clings like an itchy,
second skin.
How easy to become a casualty of
someone else’s hunger, to lose yourself
moon-searching, insecurities passing from
mouth to hand.
Would you believe me if I told you that
you’re already golden?
Spider silk shimmer. Dandelion burst.
There isn’t a light you need that’s not
already yours.”

“please, let beauty interrupt you, let truth correct you, let awe quiet your fear. The question is not what will last forever in the world, the question is what will refine your spirit so completely that it changes the way you inhabit any world” ~ brianna wiest by @nccarrieb

“I am a frayed and nibbled survivor in a fallen world, and I am getting along. I am aging and eaten and have done my share of eating too. I am not washed and beautiful, in control of a shining world in which everything fits, but instead am wondering awed about on a splintered wreck I’ve come to care for, whose gnawed trees breathe a delicate air, whose bloodied and scarred creatures are my dearest companions, and whose beauty bats and shines not in its imperfections but overwhelmingly in spite of them...” ~ Annie Dillard by @nccarrieb

“The people who come through a reordering intact aren’t the ones who see it coming first. They’re the ones who were already practicing stillness, already returning to the root, already loosening their grip on the outcome, long before the wind ever picked up …

That’s the whole of what being awake in the midst of this actually means. Not knowing what’s coming. Just being the kind of person the coming doesn’t undo.”

Last night, I was able to attend my second Moral Monday in Alamance County ... Inspired by the legacy of John Lewis & Rev. Dr. William Barber’s call for a Moral Revival, we gathered in community to support for voting rights, civic participation, and an economy & democracy that work for everyone!

*Free & Democratic Elections have always been extremely important to me. Voting is how we do things like fully fund our schools, lower cost of living, raise minimum wage, & help better regulate things like data centers. Now more than ever it is vital that you:
🗳️ Register to vote (check your registration),
🗓️ Make a plan to vote (I plan to vote early in person!),
✅ Get to know your candidates ... see what they value & what they hope to do when elected,
💙 Vote for candidates that best align with what you want for your future,
⭐️ And don’t forget to vote all the way down the ballot!

➡️ NC folks, start here: https://www.ncsbe.gov/voting/upcoming-election

*In honor of Labor Day, we also focused on Labor Issues including hearing from the head of the Alamance-Burlington Chapter of the NC Association of Educators (Kids Over Corporations!!) ♥️📚✏️🚌

🎶 @durhamresistancesingers offered a beautiful & inspirational performance ... I was so glad to have their support & friendship in Alamance ♥️♥️♥️ by @nccarrieb

“Our fates are tied. We have this strange notion on this planet that our fates are not tied. If it were not so we would not be here together. It’s that simple.” ~ Luisah Teish

“It can be difficult and discouraging to show up day after day to protest, or doggedly work on lawsuits, legislation, voter registration, opinion pieces, and myriad other things meant to save our democracy, without knowing if any of these actions will have an effect. The American civil rights movement had an answer to this uncertainty—show up, and then show up again, and again, until the wrongs have been righted …

Steinem gave similarly pragmatic and process-oriented advice to a new generation of college graduates. ‘Just remember that what you do every day matters. What you say, what you encourage, what you oppose, what you imagine.’

Political progress comes not just from grand legislative packages, but also from the daily actions that each one of us takes in the belief and hope that they will make a difference. That philosophy has contributed to the end of dictatorships abroad and it can help us to resist threats to our democracy here.

To rebound from tragedy and respond effectively to threats against our freedoms, it’s more important than ever to adopt the secret weapon of democracy protection: hope.”

“We have lived by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world. ... We have been wrong. We must change our lives, so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption that what is good for the world will be good for us. . . We must recover the sense of the majesty of the creation and the ability to be worshipful in its presence. For it is only on the condition of humility and reverence before the world that our species will be able to remain in it.” ~ Wendell Berry by @nccarrieb
